Attorney General Eric Holder announces new treatment for non-violent drug offenders

Yesterday, in addition to the court ruling on stop-and-frisk, there was other news with regards to civil rights. Speaking at a national gathering of the American Bar Association, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that he will review the criminal justice system and push for legislation that adjusts the archaic mandatory minimums for drug offenders as well as a directive for all U.S. attorneys to draft charges in non-violent drug offenses and possession cases, that do not trigger mandatory minimum sentences.

Are Republicans going to try to impeach Obama?

I’m surprised it took House Republicans three years to talk impeachment. Certainly, when they won back the House, which is where the impeachment process begins, I imagined “impeachment” would become part of our collective lexicon again as the Republicans went after another Democratic president.

The loss of the White House in 2012, allowed House Republicans the freedom to beat the conspiracy drum yet again, with no fear of a general election backlash for overreach. With the current news cycle overflowing with “scandals,” that wouldn’t even make Olivia Pope blink, we now have to pretend along with the mainstream media that the president is in some second term “curse” and that the GOP is charging up the road with Articles of Impeachment ...

It’ll take more than Bobby Jindal to fix this

Despite Republicans’ long standing campaign of boning up relationships in the Asian community–it turns out, Asians as a voting bloc lean to the left. This is significant for many reasons and brings up a lot of questions, like why? Well, the reasons are probably varied and nuanced, but what we can say is this–it is statistically significant and the right can’t ignore it (or use us as pawns in their PR campaigns about faux-versity).

Jamelle Bouie points out at the American Prospect–Asians are left out of the conversation on immigration, yet immigrate at a higher rate than Latinos. And he made a chart showing the shift in support towards Obama.

Senate proposes bipartisan plan for immigration

Launching a ramped up effort to prioritize immigration reform under the Obama administration–8 Senators (4 Republican and 4 Democrat) have proposed bipartisan plan to reform immigration law in this country. After four years of disastrous immigration law enforcement and border patrolling splitting up thousands of families, leaving children orphaned and subjecting undocumented immigrants to a slue of human rights violations–is there hope in sight?

Yes and no. The proposed law does propose pathways to citizenship, but only after there has been an increase patrolling on the border and in places of work.
