What should I #AskPelosi this weekend at Netroots Nation 2013?

This weekend in San Jose, California, I have the privilege of representing for the Feministing crew in a lunchtime keynote session with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). We recently had an awesome Feministing Five with Pelosi, and knowing her reputation for candor, I expect nothing less than an awesome interview.

I’m taking your questions via Twitter using the hashtag #AskPelosi so please make sure to submit questions there before Wednesday, June 19th at 10pm  EST.

Netroots ’12: watch Ask a Sista

Update: I’ve replaced the live stream video with the recording of the panel.

Our own Zerlina is speaking on a panel at Netroots Nation today, and you can watch it live right here at 10:30am EST (I’ll replace the live stream video with the recording of the panel when that becomes available, just like with yesterday’s video of Blogging for Transgender Equality). The panel’s called Ask a Sista: Black Women Muse on Politics, Policy, Pop Culture, and Scholarship (best panel title ever right?). It also features Cheryl Contee, Co-Founder & Partner at Fission Strategy and Attentive.ly, “Dr. Goddess,” aka Kimberly C. Ellis, Ph.D., communications strategist jenifer daniels. The live streaming is made possible by AFSCME, Five Steps Forward and

Netroots ’12: watch Blogging for Transgender Equality

Update: I’ve replaced the live stream video with the recording of our panel. (The video is long, and there’s not a transcript yet. If there’s a reader out there who is able to transcribe the video you can get in touch with me at jos AT feministing DOT com.)

I’m on a panel at Netroots Nation this morning about blogging on transgender issues, and you can watch the panel right here – it’s streaming live at 10:30am. The panelists are a badass group I’m proud to be a part of: Autumn Sandeen from Pam’s House Blend, Dr. Jill Weiss from Bilerico, Monica Roberts from TransGriot, and  Jennifer Levi from GLAD, the organization that made this panel happen. The live streaming is ...

Netroots Nation gets the first step of trans inclusion right

This is an important year for transgender issues at Netroots Nation. The conference is hosting its first trans-focused panel (featuring me!), and I’ve seen a half dozen out trans folks here, which is a big step forward in representation when you realize Autumn Sandeen was the only out trans person at the conference in 2008.

Most people, even in progressiveville, haven’t thought about how to be inclusive of and respectful towards trans folks until they’re confronted with the issue directly. To make the space accountable to trans folks, a conference like Netroots needs to be explicit and proactive.

Which is why I’m super jazzed that there’s a “Transgender Etiquette” section in the conference program this year. Even better – it’s ...

Feministing at Netroots Nation 2012

The next few days are Netroots Nation, a big annual progressive organizing and blogging conference being held in Providence, RI this year. I’m at the conference, along with Zerlina and Katie. I’m currently at the LGBT pre-convening, organized by the badass Michael Rogers – Netroots starts in earnest tomorrow. We’ll be blogging from the conference for the rest of the week/weekend. (This isn’t Feministing’s first year at Netroots – you can check out some of our past coverage here.)

I’m ridiculously excited about the panel I’ll be on. It features a who’s who of trans lady bloggers – Autumn Sandeen from Pam’s House Blend, Dr. Jill Weiss from Bilerico, Monica Roberts from TransGriot, and yours truly. I’m ...

Hello from Netroots Nation!

I’m in rainy Minneapolis, MN for Netroots Nation, a major progressive blogging and organizing conference. I’m at the LGBT Netroots Connect pre-conference today, organized by Michael Rogers. And just so you know, we’ve already made “no fake lesbians” one of our group agreements. The conference starts in earnest tomorrow, when Maya and Shark-Fu will be here as well. I’ll be blogging from the conference and cross-posting at VenusPlusX.org who have given me a generous scholarship to attend the conference.

If you’re at Netroots come and say hi! You can also follow the conversation on Twitter with the hashtags #NN11 and #NN11LGBT.

Netroots Nation 2010: Wrap-up

I attended the fifth annual Netroots Nation Conference last week in Las Vegas Nevada. I didn’t do any liveblogging because I didn’t think anything in particular would be interesting to you all, but I did do a few video interviews that I will be posting eventually (after I edit and make transcripts!).

I wanted to at least share a few of my thoughts about the conference. This was the first time I’ve ever attended, but Feministing folks have gone before.

Netroots Nation, despite their efforts to promote diversity, is still a majority straight white male blogger space. I don’t know if that will ever change, unless the demographics of the political blogosphere change radically.

But, like Samhita, I was able ...
