Hey girl.

The Root’s David Swerdlick is clearly tapped into my mental mind:

Rice is also pro-choice in an anti-choice party that already doesn’t trust Romney’s conservative bona fides in light of his well-known flip-flop on the abortion issue.

And Rice has never run for office before — so that admirable “above the fray” quality would go right out the window once she did. The fact that her name keeps being mentioned as a serious contender says not much about her and much more about the politics of being on the vice presidential “short list.” In theory, she gets the prestige that comes from being on that list, and Romney gets credit for including an African-American woman among the finalists, even if ...

NAACP reaction shots to Mitt Romney

The amazing Jorge Rivas at Colorlines has a hilarious post compiling photos of  people’s reactions to Mitt Romney as he awkwardly addressed the NAACP (or white voters afraid he would be too nice to black people).  This shot may be my favorite, but you can pick for yourself here.

Side eye of the week right there, and that was before Romney told the NAACP audience ” if they want more stuff from government tell them to go vote for the other guy-more free stuff. But don’t forget nothing is really free.”

I’d love to see response shots to that gem!

Romney senior advisor: Women’s issues are “shiny objects” that “distract voters”

Oh, yes he did:

Mitt Romney’s senior campaign adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, on Sunday said that social issues important to women, like contraception coverage and abortion rights, were “shiny objects” that were being used to distract voters.

David Plouffe, one of President Barack Obama’s top aides, last week told New York Magazine that Democrats needed to be clear about what a Romney presidency would mean for women’s rights and other social issues.

On Sunday, Fehrnstrom insisted that the Obama campaign strategy was not going to work.

“Mitt Romney is pro-life,” the senior adviser admitted to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “He’ll govern as a pro-life president, but you’re going to see the Democrats use all sorts of shiny objects to distract people’s attention from the Obama performance ...

Michele Bachmann on women voters: mistaken or dishonest?

Michele Bachmann appeared on Face the Nation Sunday to share totally incorrect information about women voters.

“The myth is there is a Republican war on women. There’s not a Republican war on women…. That’s coming from the Obama reelection team…. Actually, if you look at the 2010 elections, women went Republican. They didn’t go Democrat, and they will this time as well, because women are more concerned about the economy and jobs for themselves, for their husbands, for their children, and that’s not happened because obama’s broken his promises. …

And it was women who overwhelmingly went Republican and threw out a woman speaker [Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)]. I think this time again what women want, Bob, is they want competence, and, unfortunately, ...

Romney campaign on whether women should be paid fairly: “We’ll get back to you on that”

Remember that whole women problem that the Republicans definitely don’t have?

I think it just got a whole lot worse.

On a media call this morning, when asked if he supports the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which helps ensure women get paid fairly, the Romney camp refused to answer. Audio of Romney campaign aides saying “we’ll get back to you on that” after being asked about the bill can be found here.

The ridiculous and dodgy comment inspired the hashtag #WellGetBackToYouOnThat on Twitter.

As you all know, the Lilly Ledbetter Act is an important piece of feminist history. It was signed just three years ago, when it became the first bill Obama signed as President in January 2009. It would be pretty ...

Memo to Robert Ehrlich: We already know Romney’s “real views”

Oh, puhlease. Think Progress caught this interview last night on CNN where Robert Ehrlich, Mitt Romney’s Maryland campaign chair, was asked about Romney’s “women problem” with the polls (in short, the majority of them don’t vote for him), to which he responded that Democrats are using Santorum’s verbage to confuse voters with Romney, adding:

When you have the one-on-one general election, and they see again and are reminded of, Governor Romney’s real views, that gender gap will dissipate rather quickly.

Aside from the fact that he’s basically saying that Democrats are liars and women are too clueless to know Romney’s “real views” on issues they care about, it’s no news that Romney is anti-choice,

Mitt Romney thinks voters have no memory

Yesterday, in typical “post-primary step all over my victory with a gaffe” Mitt Romney fashion, Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney’s campaign spokesman told CNN that by the general election Romney will be able to “hit a reset button” and stated that it’s “almost like an etch-a-sketch you can kind of shake it up and start all over again.”

Uh…

So Mitt Romney thinks that all of the “severely conservative” positions he’s taken during this long primary fight will just go away like the drawings on an etch-a-sketch? Certainly the Romney camp realizes that many of Romney’s most problematic positions–like saying he would get rid of Planned Parenthood–are all on video right?

It’s certainly interesting that the one candidate this year who has seemingly lacked ...
