I’m not sure about your social media, but mine lately’s been blowing up with people talking about just how much their hometown they are. People on my feeds are so Chicago. They’re so Wingate, NC, they’re so Worcester, MA, and they’re so New York City. They’re dropping names of old hangouts and neighborhood characters. Happy Drinco de Mayo! Today plenty of people around the country are getting drunk on behalf of Mexicans, a sweet and thoughtful gesture. Feministing Jamz: The Afro-Latina Edition

It’s Black History Month, and one thing that I often see get lost every February is the history of Afro-Latin@s. Certainly Latino organizations and activism have a long, long ways to go here. But the always awesome Alt.Latino is an exception, and their Black History Month show – featuring Feministing Five alum Bianca Laureano of the LatiNegr@s Project – inspired me to put together a list of Afro-Latina women in music.
