Join Rosario Dawson as a backer of Feministing #TimesTen!

The Feministing crew is honored, humbled, and blown away by the outpouring of support our Kickstarter received on its first day. As of writing this, we’re about to cross $10,000 from 300 backers, which brings us 1/3 of the way to our goal for relaunching Feministing!

We know yesterday’s fundraising success is down to you, the Feministing community. We’re so grateful for every dollar you give and everyone you encourage to donate, as well.

We thought you might like to know you were joined yesterday by Rosario Dawson as a backer of the campaign:

I’m so proud to be an official backer and supporter of the next phase of @Feministing. Join me! http://t.co/RseGLpn986 #timesten

Feministing #TimesTen: We’re relaunching Feministing, and we need your money!

You know the Feministing crew doesn’t like to beat around the bush. We haven’t done a lot of that in the almost ten years we’ve been around, and we won’t do it now. We’d rather be straightforward: we need your money.

For nearly a decade, we’ve been severely under-funded, earning a shoestring budget from ad revenue while mainly running the site as a labor of love. It’s no longer sustainable, and it’s time to change that. This month, we’re running a Kickstarter campaign to fund a huge relaunch of Feministing. And we hope you’ll be part of it!

The Feministing Five: Anna Saini

Meet Anna Saini—a community organizer, author, and radical activist who is thrilled to be literally lending her voice to The Red Umbrella Diaries—a soon to be filmed documentary featuring seven LGBTQ sex worker storytellers.

The film, which is still in its fundraising stage—check out its Kickstarter!—will be a culmination of the Red Umbrella Project—a storytelling series that has been running out of New York’s Happy Ending Lounge since 2009. On November 14th, Anna with The Red Umbrella Project will be performing her story-telling at Joe’s Pub in New York City and it will be recorded for the feature film. We chatted with Anna about her involvement in the Red Umbrella Project and her activism off the stage.

And now, without further ...

Demand Kickstarter remove guide to sexual assault

*Trigger warning: This piece discusses sexual assault*

You know what always gets the ladies in bed? Assaulting them.

This is the guidance redditor Ken Hoinsky wants to offer to the world in his new book, Above the Game: A Guide to Getting Awesome with Women, for which he’s already raised nearly $16,000 on Kickstarter. Apparently the “game” of which he is “above” is securing consent, and his advice is a play-by-play description of sexual assault. Casey Malone picked out some highlights:

Get CLOSE to her, damn it!

To quote Rob Judge, “Personal space is for pussies.” I already told you that the most successful seducers are those who can’t keep their hands off of women. Well you’re ...

Help build a national monument to survivors of sexual violence

Remember PINK loves CONSENT? The activists behind the brilliant pank campaign to promote communicative, hot, consensual sex have been building temporary tributes to survivors of sexual violence (like the projection above) on the national mall while working to create a permanent national monument. FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture is now planning its biggest intervention yet. The collective writes:

As an art and activist campaign, FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture is installing temporary monuments on the national mall. For next summer we are planning our largest action to date: The Monument Quilt. The Monument Quilt will be a GIANT quilt made of survivors’ stories and covering the entire lawn on the national mall. The quilt will also be a GIANT Picnic ...
