Today is the four-year anniversary of the last time the minimum wage was increased.

I’ve written before about why everyone but especially women–who make up two-thirds of minimum wage workers–need a raise. Today, the National Women’s Law Center is out with a new analysis showing that 60 percent of the jobs women have gained in the economic recovery have been concentrated in the 10 largest low-wage occupations–ones that typically pay  less than $10.10 per hour, which it should be noted is considerably higher than minimum wage and still totally insufficient. Just 20 percent of men’s job gains have been in these low-wage jobs.

Report: Women hold only 14.3 percent of executive positions at major companies

Today, Catalyst released their 2012 report detailing the gender gap in the leadership of the Fortune 500 companies. Here are some facts:

Women held 14.3 percent of executive officer positions. Women held 8.1 percent of top earner positions. Women held 16.6 percent of board seats. Women of color held just 3.3 percent of board seats. One-quarter of the companies had no women in executive officer positions. One-tenth of the companies had no women on their boards. Two-thirds of companies had no women of color on their boards.

And, as Bryce Covert notes, things have barely gotten any better in recent years: “2012 was the seventh consecutive year in which we haven’t seen any growth in board seats and the third year of stagnation in the C-suite.” ...

Appalling wage decreases and persistant gender gap for recent college graduates

While our country’s leadership is indecisive about the best way to deal with the high unemployment rates, research is showing us the chilling reality that not only has the wage gap between genders not gone away, but recent college graduates are making less and less in wages.

Via Daily Kos a study from the Economic Policy Institute (accompanied with the above graph) tell us,

After gains in the 1980s and particularly in the 1990s, hourly wages for young college-educated men in 2000 were $22.75, but that dropped by almost a full dollar to $21.77 by 2010.  For young college-educated women, hourly wages fell from $19.38 to $18.43 over the same period.  Now,with unemployment expected to remain above 8% well ...
