The 2016 Feministing Gift Guide

As we kiss the flaming garbage heap that was 2016 goodbye, let’s take a moment to appreciate the good there was this year. Many of us found that good in our chosen families, in the communities that held us, and in the radical feminist babes in our lives.

Only children, and our families’ choices

After so many years of making small talk with strangers, I can subconsciously rattle off those introductory and intrusive getting-to-know-you questions, mostly about how to pronounce my name and “where I’m really from.” But eventually, the stranger will ask if I have siblings and I’ll respond: “No, I’m actually an only child.”’

Intersectional princesses for the little feminists in your life

It’s a rare day that I take time to promote princesses, but these are no ordinary royalty I’m writing about today. The Guardian Princess Alliance is a series of educational books about a group of racially and gender diverse princesses who take action to protect living beings and the planet for future generations.

The Feministing Guide to Surviving the Holidays

The holidays are a glorious time of shiny baubles and delicious food and sepia memories — unless, of course, your life is even a tiny bit complicated, in which case there’s a 97% chance that the mere idea of the next month of celebrations makes you want never, ever to get out of bed.

Some of us have messy families or Republican uncles. Others, particularly survivors of violence and members of marginalized groups, face depression and unsafe gatherings. Add your own suggestions in the comments to support feminist in need of some help this season.

Feel like giving this holiday season? Consider a donation to Feministing!

Are you part of the Feministing community and wondering what you can do to support our work?

Well, one way you can support our work is by considering a non tax deductible gift to Feministing this holiday season (and then ask a friend to do the same).

We at Feministing work all year round bringing you the best content we can muster up in-between all the other work we do to pay our bills! We dream of a sustainable future, but while we figure that out, any little bit of money helps (even just 20 dollars), whether it’s to pay our awesome tech team, give a small stipend to our writers or provide meals at our annual retreats.

We’ll be back Wednesday

Despite being a bunch of godless heathen feminists, we’re taking the next couple days off from blogging. We’ll be back Wednesday with our end of the year content.

In the mean time, if the holidays are a difficult time of year for you, here are a couple resources I’ve found:
The December Project, to help members of the trans community survive the holidays.
Surviving the Holidays as Queer People of Color: Give the Gift of Media

Please feel free to share other resources (or holiday wishes) in the comments.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to continue indulging my Christmas obsession like a good Jewish girl.
