Guess which conservative says Hillary Clinton is unbeatable

We’ve probably all heard or said that Hillary Clinton would be a great candidate for president. And certainly, Democrats and strategists from Nancy Pelosi to Kirsten Gillibrand to David Plouff to James Carville are urging her to run or say she would make a great candidate. It’s not often we hear this kind of talk coming from the right, especially from someone who was almost the Republican nominee for president. But this Sunday, on Meet the Press, Newt Gingrich, in a rare moment of honesty, came out and said it:

If their [the Republicans'] competitor in ‘16 is going to be Hillary Clinton, supported by Bill Clinton and presumably a still relatively popular president Barack Obama, trying to win ...

Quick Hit: Hillary Clinton has already won the 2016 election

Ok, so not really. But according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, 57% of Americans would support her hypothetical 2016 presidential candidacy. Nope, that’s not a typo: in our supposedly hopelessly partisan country, most people like the idea of Hillary Clinton in the White House. Everyone also just thinks she’s great. From the Washington Post:

On both scores — personal popularity and job performance — Democrats are overwhelmingly supportive of the long-time party leader, as are around two-thirds of independents. Even sizable numbers of Republicans are on board here, particularly when it comes to rating how she is doing as secretary of state: 40 percent approve and 50 percent disapprove. (At last measure, barely 12 percent of GOP ...

Photo of the Day: Hillary Clinton and Aung San Suu Kyi

Secretary Clinton embraces Aung San Suu Kyi at the villa where she’d been under house arrest for 15 years. President Obama said, “I’m proud to be the first American president to visit this spectacular country, and I am very pleased that one of my first stops is to visit with an icon of democracy who has inspired so many people, not just in this country but all around the world.” (Photo via @DavidNakamura)

Photos show it’s not Libya against the United States

Conservatives love pointing to the Clash of Civilizations theory any time there is any clash. Historical, political, economic circumstances… shmistorical, political, economic circumstances. And many have already presented the attack and tragic killing of the US ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others to a cultural war between Libyans and Americans, or Muslims and non-Muslims, as if all Libyans, Muslims, people of the Middle East, were one American-hating monolith.

Hillary Clinton explained how the attack was the act of a small group and that Libyans helped defend and rescue the Americans in the consulate.

Friday Feminist Fuck Yeah: Hillary Clinton

Aided by the Texts From Hillary tumblr–and pushed over the edge when the Secretary herself submitted a text–Hillary Clinton’s image has taken a turn for the cool lately. But as Amanda Marcotte notes at The Prospect, Clinton’s image as a “badass boss lady” isn’t really new–it’s what her fans have always seen and loved in her. But, Amanda argues, it’s an image that was tempered as she sought older voters in the 2008 primary–and one that might be easier to maintain when she’s the Secretary of State and not a presidential hopeful:

Of course, the fact that Clinton isn’t competing openly with a male politician makes it that much easier for fans, either long-standing or newly minted, ...

Hillary Sexism Watch: Tim Gunn says she dresses like she’s “confused about her gender”

This shit might be why women don’t run for office nearly enough. Tim Gunn and George Lopez have a few laughs about Hillary Clinton’s fashion choices. Oh the lolz!

Gunn referred bitingly to her “Jersey Shore style,” and Lopez compared her prints to No Bugs M’Lady. It got worse.

After paying lip service to Clinton’s actual accomplishments, Gunn demanded, “Why must she dress that way? I think she’s confused about her gender!” He added, “No, I’m really serious, she wears pantsuits that are unflattering.” Then it went on to “cankles.”

Gunn finished, “I have great respect for her intellect and her tenacity and for what she does for our country in her governmental role. I just wish she could send a stronger ...

“What these women are doing is brave”: Clinton Responds to Saudi Women Drivers

You may have heard about women in Saudi Arabia organizing a plan to jointly defy the women’s driving ban by encouraging women with international driver’s licenses to get in their cars and drive on June 17.

Yesterday Secretary of State Hillary Clinton responded to the demands of these Saudi activists and spoke out in support of the right of Saudi women to drive.

“What these women are doing is brave and what they are seeking is right,” Clinton said. “The effort belongs to them. I am moved by it and I support them.”

As Bloomberg reports, this comment was made a day after her spokeswoman advocated “quiet diplomacy” as a more effective way to tackle the ...

Secretary Clinton says no to second term

In an interview with Wolf Blitzer in Cairo, Secretary Hillary Clinton gives it to us straight:

Q- If the president is reelected, do you want to serve a second term as secretary of state?

No

Q- Would you like to serve as secretary of defense?

No

Q- Would you like to be vice president of the United States?

No

Q- Would you like to be president of the United States?

No

She gives some explanation about her reasons for not running for president again (which we expected), but I’m curious to hear more about her decisions not to take a second term (full interview will air on The Situation Room at 5 pm EST). I’ll admit I’m disappointed — she has been ...
