Cain reassesses campaign (thankfully)

I was getting pretty tired of headline after headline that tried to apologize for Herman Cain’s inappropriate behavior towards women. But when the allegations came out yesterday that he had a (consensual–with this guy you have to be specific) 13-year affair with a woman yesterday, I kept wondering–HOW will he get around this one? After all, harassment and assault accusations are easy for politicians to deny and dimiss in our culture of rape–but adultery can sometimes be a game-changer.

Well, it looks like the Cain campaign is thinking the same thing. This afternoon it was released that his staff is reassessing their strategy–as in, they realized they have none and they were propping up a sham politician who was not only backed ...

Cain campaign continues attacks on women with sexist comments and victim-blaming “truth site”

It’s been an exceptional 24 hours for Herman Cain, even by Cain-sian standards.

The pizza mogul, former lobbyist and Republican frontrunner for the presidential nomination has exceeded all of our wildest dreams with his recent string of gaffes, attacks, and inappropriate laughs.

First there was the “Princess Nancy” comment during last night’s Republican debate.  TPM notes that although Cain later admitted that this was a comment he “probably shouldn’t have made,” the sarcastic slur was repeated on Cain’s official Twitter account, which tweeted:

“The answer to Health Care: HR3000, the bill killed by “Princess Nancy” in committee #tcot #cnbcdebate”

Lord knows I can be a little too fond of nicknames at times, but even I know better ...

Updated: New accuser goes public about alleged sexual harassment assault by Herman Cain

Updated 2:19pm EST: Sharon Bialek has come forward with allegations against Herman Cain that sounds more sexual assault than just harassment (possibly triggering):

A woman says Republican presidential contender Herman Cain reached under her skirt for her genitals and pushed her head toward his crotch in July 1997.

Sharon Bialek told reporters Monday in New York that she met with Cain to ask about getting her old job back at the National Restaurant Association when the incident happened in Washington. At the time, Cain was chief of a restaurant trade group.

Bialek says that, when she asked Cain what he was doing, Cain said, “You want a job, right?”

Wow. I don’t know if ...

Herman Cain responds to accusations of inappropriate behavior by not responding to accusations of inappropriate behavior

According to Politico, Herman Cain engaged in sexually suggestive behavior towards at least two female employees during his time at the National Restaurant Association. Suspiciously, the women signed agreements and received financial settlements to leave the association. It’s hard not to continually question Herman Cain’s legitimacy as a candidate, with his faulty logic, annoying bravado and frightening policy suggestions–but this is not looking good.

Initially, Cain didn’t respond to these allegations,

Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon told POLITICO the candidate indicated to campaign officials that he was “vaguely familiar” with the charges and that the restaurant association’s general counsel had resolved the matter.

The latest statement came from Cain himself. In a tense sidewalk encounter Sunday morning outside the Washington bureau of CBS News — where the Republican ...
