Infographic: marriage equality is officially mainstream

Center for American Progress has issued a report which looks at polls and demonstrates that the majority of the country supports marriage equality. Crosby Burns and Ben Harris write,

In short, marriage equality is now a mainstream American value. Just a decade ago, however, a majority of Americans opposed laws and policies that extended marital rights to same-sex couples. In the ensuing 10 years, the United States has come a long way with states passing marriage equality legislation, national leaders coming out in support of equal relationship recognition rights, and same-sex couples sharing their stories of love and commitment with their friends and family.

Happy Harvey Milk (teen predator) Day!

Happy Birthday Harvey Milk! Today you would have turned 82. But your life was cut short when you were shot to death at the young age of 48, a year after being elected (as the first openly gay person) to California’s Board of Supervisors.

Happy Birthday, Harvey.

If Harvey Milk were alive, he would have celebrated his 81st birthday yesterday.

As one of the first openly gay elected officials in the country, his work was not only one of a politician but of an activist, encouraging his supporters not only to fight for a more just world, but telling them that electing people from marginalized communities to public office was a critical way in achieving that.

He was assassinated on November 27, 1978, at age of 48. More at Pam’s House Blend.
