Is it because you were out having a life and also because you probably think the GOP candidates are all anti-woman, anti-government, and anti-science? Oh.

Well, don’t fret because I watched the entire thing, live tweeted it, and have selected my Top 5 most ridiculous moments so you can continue on living your awesome life!

Let’s get started.

GOP candidates on same sex marriage rights

Last night in Ames, Iowa, several of the GOP candidates got together for a debate in advance of the weekend’s largely meaningless but apparently highly newsworthy Iowa Straw Poll.

Think Progress has put together this handy short video, and transcript, of all of last night’s candidates – Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman – stating their positions on marriage equality. Unsurprisingly, they all think that we should continue discriminating against same sex couples! With the exception of Jon Huntsman, none of them is even down with civil unions.

More Santorum audacity: “I’ve taken bullets” on abortion

This weekend, he said abortion providers should be criminally charged. Then he made this gem of a comment Monday night at the GOP debate. While the potential candidates fought over who’s the most “pro-life”, Rick Santorum responded:

“Not only have I been consistently pro-life, I have not just taken the pledge but I’ve taken the bullets to go out there and fight for this and lead on those issues.”

Hence the best response to this on Twitter:

What an asshole.
