Hillary Clinton supports same-sex marriage

Duh. But awesome.

She’s right–America is at its best when we champion the freedom and dignity of every human being. It is not surprising but important and necessary that Democratic politicians continue to come out in support of same-sex marriage.

It’s going to take a global movement to ensure all people regardless of sexuality can live as who they are and be embraced. If you are interested in this, check out All Out and join the largest global movement fighting for LGBTQ rights.

Republican Senator Rob Portman changes his mind on marriage equality because of his gay son

In a moving tribute to his son Will, who is gay, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman announced his support of marriage equality. The celebrated conservative senator, once on the short list to become Mitt Romney’s running mate in 2012, writes in a column published today in The Columbus Dispatch:

I have come to believe that if two people are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to love and care for each other in good times and in bad, the government shouldn’t deny them the opportunity to get married.

That isn’t how I’ve always felt. As a congressman, and more recently as a senator, I opposed marriage for same-sex couples. Then something happened that led me to think through my ...

Quick hit: know any gays against gay marriage?

This just in: The National Organization for Marriage, also known as Gay-Haters Against Civil Rights, is now courting gays in its fight against gay marriage. So spread the word and help them recruit! Because if we learned anything from politics over the last few years, it’s that discriminatory beliefs are much more palatable when they are espoused by a member of the minority group most affected. Oh, and that  divide and conquer ALWAYS works.

Joe Biden pushed into the closet on gay marriage

http://youtu.be/trcdYBUD3r8

Vice President Joe Biden is known for his gaffs. But this time, he should stick by what he said. On Meet The Press,  Biden expressed his full support for same-sex marriage, outdoing Obama, who supports civil unions, saying:

“I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly, I don’t see much of a distinction beyond that.”

Biden did include the disclaimer, “I am vice president of the United States of America. The president sets the policy.” But apparently, that wasn’t enough. The Obama campaign made sure everyone knew ...

Supporting marriage equality, one lick at a time

If life is like a box of chocolates, then marriage is like a… truck of ice cream.

Australian marriage equality advocate, writer and blogger Adrian Fernand is trying to get to people’s hearts and minds, through their stomachs. He’s driving around Australia in an Ice Cream Truck of Love, handing out free ice cream and raising awareness about marriage equality. As he explains in this video, Fernand is making the point that

Some people like vanilla. Others might like strawberry. And some people like chocolate. What if I were to say this person isn’t allowed ice cream, simply because I don’t like chocolate. Now that wouldn’t be fair now would it? That’s why we believe everybody should have ice cream, no ...

National Organization for Marriage memos reveal same ‘ol racial wedge strategy

Surprise! The National Organization of Marriage uses race as a strategic wedge issue in the debate over marriage equality.

A confidential memo obtained by the Human Rights Campaign outlines the strategy to divide along racial lines stating (Via The Daily Beast):

“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies,” it said. “We aim to find, equip, energize and connect African-American spokespeople for marriage, to develop a media campaign around their objections to marriage as a civil right; and to provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots.”

The racial divisions aren’t only between black and white.  Hispanics are actually the key to the plan with ...

Maryland becomes 8th state to pass marriage equality

Gay marriage is coming to Maryland! Last night, the legislature passed the bill and Gov. O’Malley has promised to sign it into law. Maryland is the eighth state to approve gay marriage–and the fourth state one to do so in the last year.

Unfortunately, the law will probably be put to a referendum on the November ballot. (Because here in America, we occasionally like to put our basic civil liberties up for a popular vote–that is, when the government isn’t unilaterally trampling all over them.)

Nevertheless, between this victory and Washington’s new marriage equality law–and despite that one recent setback since New Jersey’s Governor happens to be a raging bigot–there definitely seems to be some serious homomentum these ...

Breaking: Washington legalizes same sex marriage

Washington state Gov. Christine Gregoire has signed a new law making the state the 7th to allow same sex marriage.

Gregoire signed the bill in the state reception room in the Capitol, surrounded by gay rights supporters. “I’m proud our same-sex couples will no longer be treated as separate but equal,” Gregoire said.

It’s a historic moment, but same-sex couples can’t walk down the aisle just yet.

The law takes effect June 7, but opponents are already mounting challenges on multiple fronts.

Opponents are going to try to bring a challenge on the November ballot. Which I imagine would only bring more left leaning voters to the polls.

Marriage is getting gayer every day.
