Bring Feministing to your campus!

Since the Fall of 2009, Feministing has been traveling to college campuses to talk feminism – from the “war on women” to transgender liberation, from building consent culture on campuses to racial justice, from online activism to Beyonce. And we’re hitting the road again for our sixth year! We’re currently booking events for this current school year, so now’s a great time to get in touch about bringing us to campus. We’ve got brand new speaking event options this year – check out our speaking tour page for all the details, and read on to learn about our panels.

Victory! White House task force unveils new recommendations to end campus sexual assault

If you read Feministing regularly you probably know about the work of Know Your IX and its ED ACT NOW campaign, which are fighting for Title IX enforcement to combat sexual violence on college campuses. Feministing’s own Alexandra, Wagatwe, and Suzanna are leaders in this campaign, and recently brought their demands all the way to the White House.

Last night, the new White House Task Force to Protect Students From Sexual Assault released its first report, announcing that it was adopting many of the policy ideas developed and demanded by these BAMFs, and making resources and data available at a new

Happy Birthday Maya!

Today is Maya’s birthday!

Maya Dusenbery is Feministing’s Executive Director of Editorial, which means she has the big responsibility of overseeing the content that goes up on this site every day. If you’ve noticed a major uptick in brilliant, well-edited thought pieces recently, and that shorter posts are extra snappy and powerful, that’s down to Maya’s leadership. Maya keeps the site compelling, relevant, and strong. She’s a wonderful editor to work with — the crew consistently comments that she gives feedback that makes our writing better while preserving the integrity of our voices. Maya, Lori Adelman, and myself stepped into leadership here at Feministing last August, and getting to work so closely with these two ladies is one of ...

Feministing at 10: The media has become our feminist playground, so let’s play (to win)

Ed. note: In celebration of Feministing’s 10-year anniversary, current and former members of the Feministing crew will be offering their reflections on the changes of the last decade. Next up is Feministing co-founder Vanessa Valenti on online media-making. Read the whole series here. And consider giving us a birthday donation to ensure we’re around for another 10 years!

When it comes to the media, we’re at an unprecedented time in history.

While we’re all so busy tweeting, posting, and consuming tons of information every day, it’s easy to forget just how much media has changed over the last decade. Ten years ago, blogs had just started to garner attention, but for the most part, the mainstream media was your news ...

Feministing is 10 years old!

Happy birthday to us!

Feministing turned 10 this Saturday, April 12, a real milestone for any website. We’re so old our first site was on Movable Type. We’re two years older than Twitter, and Facebook only beat us by a couple months. We can’t wait to start the 5th grade this fall!

Feministing’s come a long way in the last decade. Jessica and Vanessa Valenti originally founded the site because of a lack of spaces dedicated to young feminist voices. Since then, the feminist internet has grown into a political and social force to be reckoned with. And Feministing has evolved as well, from a scrappy web log to the most widely read feminist publication of all time with a large and diverse roster of brilliant ...
