Chart of the Day: An uptick in threats against abortion providers

 A survey published by the Feminist Majority Foundation shows there’s been an uptick in threats and intimidation against abortion providers since 2010. The proportion of clinics affected by such tactics jumped from over a quarter to over half.

In a recording posted to YouTube, Iowa anti-choice activist Dave Leach says that it would a “blessing to the babies” if someone shot the brave folks who recently re-opened Dr. George Tiller’s former abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas.

“If someone would shoot the new abortionists, like Scott shot George Tiller, … hardly anyone will appreciate it but the babies. It will be a blessing to the babies. Everyone else will panic. On the Sikh temple massacre and domestic terrorism

The incomprehensible violence that took place on 9/11 almost 11 years ago scarred us all. It has impacted the psyche of everyone in the US so much that politicians have been able to use “terrorism” as justification for actions that step far outside the realm of conscience or constitutionality (none of this was new post-9/11, but we certainly saw an escalation and re-commitment to terrorism as the justification with all the “War on Terror” rhetoric).

But while we don’t always talk about it in this language, that was not the last act of terrorism to happen in the US. In the past 11 years we’ve seen a spike in violence against the Sikh community. There was a wave of attacks ...

Texas Planned Parenthood clinic attacked with Molotov cocktail

As the tragedy in Norway provokes speculation about the threat of home-grown right-wing extremism in the U.S., here’s a stark reminder that our most common form of domestic terrorism is alive and well.

Holly Morgan, director of media relations and communications for Planned Parenthood in Dallas, said their McKinney health center located on Eldorado Parkway was “attacked” between 10 and 11 p.m. Tuesday with an incendiary device.

The person or persons involved in the attack threw a Molotov cocktail, consisting of diesel fuel in a glass bottle with a lit rag, at the building. Morgan said the device did not penetrate the front of the clinic but did cause some serious damage.
