How are “crisis pregnancy centers” funded?

NARAL president and overall BAMF Ilyse Hogue published a piece in the Nation yesterday calling out “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs) for what they really are: traps to obstruct pregnant people from accessing abortion care. As we’ve written about before, these centers dishonestly advertise to those considering termination, pretending to be abortion clinics. Employees then dissuade clients from seeking abortions by all available methods: shaming, intimidation, medical lies.

Disturbingly, CPCs stay afloat with state financial support. Hogue writes:

In Virginia, part of the answer [of CPC funding] is Ken Cuccinelli, the current attorney general and Republican candidate for governor. He has said he was “proud” to help establish a “Choose Life” license plate as a state senator, ...

The Crisis Project: birth control kills the baby?

The Crisis Project is a new movement started by young people to investigate the fraud behind Crisis Pregnancy Centers, or as I like to call them Crisis Propaganda Centers.  We’ve written a lot about CPCs on this site, so most of you already know that they are in some cases tax payer funded right wing anti-choice disasters.

Many women walk into a CPC unaware that they are being given advice from people who are not required to be medical personnel and that have an anti-choice agenda when dispensing “advice” on their reproductive health and family planning options.

The Crisis Project went into CPCs undercover with cameras to film some of the interactions and what they found is disturbing. ...

NARAL Pro-Choice NC releases undercover investigation of CPCs

Today, NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina released their undercover investigation into crisis pregnancy centers, and it’s pretty friggin’ scary.

The state actually has an intense presence of crisis pregnancy centers — in fact, there are 8 times as many CPCs in the North Carolina than there are abortion clinics. And now, two recent state laws will drive even more funding to the centers:

Money from sales of the new “Choose Life” license plates, which are expected to become available later this year, will go to the anti-abortion centers. On Wednesday, under the new law that places restrictions on abortions, a state-run website will launch and list the places that provide free ultrasounds, a service provided ...
