It’s World Contraception Day, and Guttmacher has come out with a U.S. study finding the obvious, but still necessary to point out: Women take contraception because it makes their lives better.

New evidence confirms what most people already believe: Women use contraception because it allows them to better care for themselves and their families, complete their education and achieve economic security, according to “Reasons for Using Contraception: Perspectives of U.S. Women Seeking Care at Specialized Family Planning Clinics,” by Jennifer Frost and Laura Lindberg of the Guttmacher Institute.

Rising political star Mayor Mia Love (R-UT) had her big interview on Fox News Sunday this week. She’s a rising star and a congressional candidate who got a coveted speaking slot in prime time at their convention in Tampa. If she wasn’t a household name before the Republican National Convention, she is now.

In a party lacking diversity, Mia Love has a future. As an African American woman, Republicans will surely love her as she represents their future as they struggle to become a party of more than older whites.

DNC: Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi talks war on women

I’m at the Democratic National Convention all week long and yesterday was included in a reporters round table with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Leader Pelosi spoke passionately about why the president should be re-elected saying, “I’ve issued a D.A.R.E.,” which stands for Disclose, Amend (the Constitution to overturn Citizens United), Reform the system (leading to public financing of campaigns), and Elect reformers (in a bipartisan way)…We have to take back our democracy from the plutocracy.”

What did you do this weekend? Did you attend a rally to protest the Obama administration’s infringement on religious liberty? Probably not. Because even if you did go to Friday’s Stand Up for Religious Freedom rally in Washington, D.C., that’s not what that rally was about.

The Wednesday Weigh-In: Sandra Fluke for President edition

In an interview yesterday, current feminist media darling and America’s de facto birth control spokesperson Sandra Fluke confessed that she’ds been receiving requests to run for public office– and that it wasn’t something she had totally ruled out. Via HuffPo:

“Numerous American women have actually written to me in the last few weeks to say that I should run for office,” Fluke noted during a panel discussion on women’s history hosted by Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.). “And maybe someday I will. But for now, I actually have to finish law school.”

Arizona bill would force employees to prove they’re not using birth control for sex

Not to be used for sex. (If you want your benefits, that is.)

Why? Because it’s Arizona:

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.

Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, would permit employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment.
