CLPP 2010: It’s finally here!

It’s finally here! Jos and I are at the 2010 Civil Liberties and Public Policy Conference hosted at Hampshire College: From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building a Movement for Reproductive Freedom.

We’ll be blogging from some panels and workshops this weekend, as well as producing video content from the conference.
It’s an amazing gathering of students, activists, media makers and folks who care about reproductive justice. The panels and workshops range from traditional abortion discussions to talking about gender, prisons, empowering birth, the environment, health, race, militarism and street harassment (just to name a few!). You can see a full list of the workshops here.
If you want to follow the conference on twitter, ...

WAM-it-Yourself: Celebrating Women, Action and Media 2010

It is WAM weekend and for some pretty fantastic reasons, there is no WAM conference this year, however feminists all over the country are having WAM related events. See if there is an event in your area.
WAM was one of the first conferences I ever went to as a baby blogger. It is where I started, the first time I was asked to speak on a panel, the first time I was ever recognized for the work I do and the first time I met a lot of the people that are very important not only in my professional life, but also my personal life. WAM creates lasting bonds and brings passionate people ...

Organizing for Reproductive Justice: A Student Perspective

This is a guest post from Courtney Hooks and Anna Saeger as part of our collaboration with the 2010 CLPP Conference.

On April 9-11, 2010, people from all over the world and will gather at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts to unite for reproductive justice. As Jos mentioned in her post, students are very valued organizers of this conference. We hale from various colleges and universities in the area and work together with the Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) staff to plan the conference as intentionally as possible and make sure it runs smoothly over the weekend. The CLPP student group meets for about 2 hours every week. The work is broken down into seven committees, ...

Feministing at SXSW!

UPDATE: Jessica will not be attending SXSW due to health reasons. Apologies!
It is that time of year again for SXSW! For those of you that have been reading the blog for a while know that Feministing is part of the SXSW community and has been since my first very exciting (some may say mind-blowing) experience there my first year and then again last year, and has helped me in thinking about the line between identity and the internet. This year they have kindly asked me to do a solo presentation as part of their diversity series on “Asians and the Internet.” Since I don’t do anything text-book I decided to switch it up calling my ...

My feminist organizing origin story: CLPP Reproductive Justice Conference

As Miriam wrote on Monday, Feministing is partnering with the Civil Liberties and Public Policy program (CLPP) this year on their annual conference From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom (Remember to get those applications for travel and hotel stipends in by February 24th if you need help accessing the conference).

I couldn’t be more thrilled by this partnership, as CLPP activated me in the reproductive justice movement. I showed up to a CLPP student group meeting my second year of college at the prodding of my friend Julia, who a year before had been present in the Feminist Legal Theory class where I finally moved away from the pro-life views I ...

From Abortion Rights to Reproductive Justice Conference 2010

This year, Feministing is partnering with Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP), an organization housed at Hampshire College, on their 2010 Conference, From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom. This will be my fourth year attending the conference and it’s one of my favorites.
We’ll be featuring some content in advance of the conference, and then Jos and I will be there liveblogging as well as speaking on a few panels. Jos was actually a student organizer of the conference when she was at Hampshire!
One of the great things about the CLPP conference is that they really emphasize accessibility. The conference is free (although folks are asked to contribute if able), ...
