Happy Birthday Maya!

Today is Maya’s birthday!

Maya Dusenbery is Feministing’s Executive Director of Editorial, which means she has the big responsibility of overseeing the content that goes up on this site every day. If you’ve noticed a major uptick in brilliant, well-edited thought pieces recently, and that shorter posts are extra snappy and powerful, that’s down to Maya’s leadership. Maya keeps the site compelling, relevant, and strong. She’s a wonderful editor to work with — the crew consistently comments that she gives feedback that makes our writing better while preserving the integrity of our voices. Maya, Lori Adelman, and myself stepped into leadership here at Feministing last August, and getting to work so closely with these two ladies is one of ...

Happy Birthday Sesali!

Today is Sesali’s birthday!

Sesali and I first met early on in our national organizing days, and you don’t even know how excited I was when she rocked our contributor contest in 2012. In addition to her role as a Contributor at Feministing, Sesali is a National Campus Organizer at Planned Parenthood – she was on the ground in Albuquerque to help defeat their 20 week abortion ban this November.

Sesali’s always bringing the brilliance and visionary, original thinking to our blog. I love talking about social justice issues through a pop culture lens, and so does Sesali: she’s used Scandal to talk about trafficking tropes and respectability politics, called out American Horror Story: Coven‘s approach to race, and got deep about Beyonce’s ...

Happy birthday Jos!

We told you the Feministing birthdays just keep coming this week!

Yesterday, my co-Executive Director Jos Truitt celebrated hers.

Since she joined the Feministing crew in 2009, Jos has not only been tirelessly covering trans issues but also pushing the feminist movement’s gender analysis forward–from calling for a nuanced theory of gendered violence to a trans-inclusive way of talking about abortion politics. Though there’s certainly a long way to go, there’s no question that Jos’s sharp, thoughtful analysis has been profoundly influential–both around these parts and within online feminism at large. Personally, I can think of few other modern feminist thinkers who have strengthened and deepened my own feminism as much as Jos ...

Happy birthday Zerlina!

You may have noticed a lot of Feministing crew members have birthday right around now. Yes, this is part of a nefarious plan for Scorpios to take over the blog. And Saturday was Zerlina Maxwell‘s birthday!
