Happy Birthday Chloe!

Today is our girl Chloe’s birthday! Chloe joined the Feministing team in 2009 as our interviews contributor, creating the super popular Feministing Five series, which she’s now passed on to Anna. Since then, she’s moved over to the more general blogging side. A year and a half ago she joined the editorial team, where she’s worked on projects like bringing in our new batch of contributors (yay!) through So You Think You Can Blog.

Chloe’s also been doing big things away from the blog, including a ton of recent appearances on the Melissa Harris-Perry Show. Yeah, totally badass.

I can always count on Chloe to bum me out about my favorite rom coms like a good feminist, ...

Happy Birthday Vanessa!

Today is Vanessa’s birthday, which means it’s our excuse to talk about how great she is. Yay!

I’ll be honest: Before I actually starting writing for Feministing, I didn’t fully appreciate just how valuable Vanessa is to making the site the wonderful blog–and community–it’s been since she and Jessica started it more than eight years ago. In part, that’s because, as managing editor, she does a whole lot of behind the scenes work that’s invisible–not only to all our readers but often even to us as contributors. Trust me, managing a group of passionate but busy bloggers is no easy task. And it’s not an exaggeration to say that, in no small part, you can thank for Vanessa for ...

Happy Birthday Lori!

Today is the birthday of one of my most favorite people in the world, Feministing’s own Lori.

One of the first times I hung out with Lori, at the beginning of our first Feministing retreat, was probably the most epic night of my life. A full accounting should never appear on the internet, but I can tell you a locked snow covered playground and inappropriate behavior at Brooklyn Bowl were involved. I knew then it was love.

Lori is a true visionary. Feministing’s Campus blog was her idea, and there’s some exciting projects in the works that she planted the seed for as well.

Lori is incredibly collaborative. Some of my favorite posts of hers were co-productions with other Feministing bloggers, like ...

Happy Birthday, Harvey.

If Harvey Milk were alive, he would have celebrated his 81st birthday yesterday.

As one of the first openly gay elected officials in the country, his work was not only one of a politician but of an activist, encouraging his supporters not only to fight for a more just world, but telling them that electing people from marginalized communities to public office was a critical way in achieving that.

He was assassinated on November 27, 1978, at age of 48. More at Pam’s House Blend.

Happy Birthday Samhita!

It’s a Very Important Day in Feminist History. Today is our Executive Editor Samhita’s birthday!

She’s currently in Panama, probably drinking on a beach right now. I’m not jealous.

It’s a very well deserved vacation. You might have noticed Samhita’s voice on the blog a little bit less over the past few months. It’s cause she was writing a book, called “Outdated: Why Dating Is Ruining Your Love Life.” Don’t you wanna read that like right now? You can pre-order it here. I’ve only read the introduction so far but I can tell you it’s gonna be ah-mazing!

Then Samhita came back to blogging full time and dropped this, which I think is one of the sharpest, most brilliant pieces ...

Happy Birthday Maya!

Maya attack!

It’s Maya’s birthday!

Maya’s a newish member of the blog team here, and I’m so freaking psyched we’ve got her voice on the site. She’s been an invaluable addition, from organizing us to bowl for abortion access (and being officially the best bowler on Team Feministing) to calling out conservative asshat-ery about scary polar bears and womens and black peoples on stamps and rejecting super offensive “human rights” campaigns to brilliant lists about better uses for taxpayer dollars than defending DOMA or different kinds of sex (for serious one of my favorite posts ever). Plus what’s not to love about her love of sexy charts?

I’m particularly grateful to Maya for ...

Happy belated birthday Courtney!

Courtney, lead singer for the PrettyLittleHeads, poses before her big on-stage debut at the Rock Camp for Ladies

Our girl Courtney turned 31 on the 31st of December. Talk about a golden birthday!

She had an incredible year, one which included her new book Do It Anyway released, and meeting the deadline for another book the day before her b-day. Plus so much more. Can’t wait to see what’s to come from this amazing lady in 2011.

Happy birthday Court! I know you celebrated in style.

Happy Birthday Jessica!

Today is Jessica’s 32nd birthday.

The Feministing crew is wishing her a happy one. Jessica became a mama this year, and is busy taking care of Layla Sorella. It’s a tough job, but she’s got the support of a great family and some feminist politics to back it up.

Happy Birthday Jess! Leave her some birthday love in comments.
