The first online class on abortion care starts next week

This is very cool.

Students and medical professionals, for the first time, can go online for formal training on abortion care, thanks to a new class offered through the University of California, San Francisco.

The course, titled “Abortion: Quality Care and Public Health Implications,” offered through a massive open online course (MOOC), walks students through all things abortion, from its history and legalization in the United States, to clinical aspects of later abortions, to the relationship between early pregnancy loss and abortion care.

More than 3,000 people are already registered for the class.

In the New York Times, Merritt Tierce applauds Wendy Davis for opening up about her abortions and writes about the more common abortion stories that we don’t hear about as much.

This is how it really is, abortion: You do things you regret or don’t understand and then you make other choices because life keeps going forward. Alabama’s admitting privileges law was struck down, but it’s still terrifying to be an abortion provider

On Monday, an Alabama district court blocked the admitting privileges law that would have closed three out of the state’s five abortion clinics. Coming right on the heels of the court smackdown of Mississippi’s similar law, the decision is another heartening blow to the anti-choice strategy of regulating clinics out of existence. The judge was crystal clear: “If this requirement would not, in the face of all the evidence in the record, constitute an impermissible undue burden, then almost no regulation, short of those imposing an outright prohibition on abortion, would.”
