Good points about the immigrant ancestor status. Yes, on the one hand the “American Dream” is to rise above your current social status, but on the other hand there is this assumption that if you are lower class, you are lazy and thus deserve everything bad that happens to you. Awesome quote, by the way [...]

While you make a good point about the gender neutral-ness of the rest of the 3.5 Players Handbook (something I’ve always admired) I stand by my statement that there is something unusual about the female elf’s breasts. Big breasts by themselves are not problematic, no, but what physical traits does an elf have that distinguish them [...]

ThumbnailCross-posted at Blueberry Shake. What is class? According to Wikipedia, the different levels of class in the US are upper, upper middle, upper lower, working and lower. But as I am sure many people know, class has a lot more to do than with how much money you make. Your age, ability, how you look and where you [...]

That sounds like an awesome idea. Because it seems like rape could easily be a valuable part of a storyline, but so often it gets fucked up, it seems, for supposed “realism.” I wonder how long that list would be?

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s really atrocious how women and their bodies are treated by the US medical industry, and it’s worse that it ended up taking your mom. I’m sorry.

Isn’t it strange that even though researchers and probably most doctors know the importance of the uterus and ovaries, many doctors still won’t hesitate to scoop them all out? Thanks for your reply!

ThumbnailCross-posted at Blueberry Shake So I’m still reading Seizing Our Bodies: The Politics of Women’s Health, which I first blogged about here. The book is an anthology of essays written about women’s health issues, published in 1977. The latest essay is “The Epidemic in Unnecessary Hysterectomy,” written by Deborah Larned. This essay was originally published in the New Times Magazine [...]

That is a very good point.

This is FANTASTIC. Thank you for writing this. I also consider myself a “ball-busting” kind of feminist (though it’s not polite to say so) and I’m really glad that someone has the courage to write something like this. Bravo.

Here’s my big question: if we (as humans) are supposed to be so damn EVOLVED, and at the top of the food chain, wearing clothes and using computers and not crapping outside, then how come whenever sex/mating/beauty comes up, all of a sudden we’re (but especially men!) are just primal animals, sniffing out the most [...]

This is awful. The stickers are a cute idea (I guess, though I don’t know if airport security would find them very funny) but that sticker is horrendous. She’s crying, she has smeared makeup…this is disgusting. But hey, women are just “commodities,” like money, drugs and sex toys.

I just read a beautiful essay the other day – Adrienne Rich’s The Theft of Childbirth. It was published in 1975, so kinda dated, I know, but after doing a bit of research, though some of her statistics are dated, it’s a little horrifying how little has changed when it comes to obstetrics. The first piece of information I [...]

I’ve been reading a lot about the history of menstruation, and it’s got me to thinking about a lot of things.  But I’ll get into that later.  Right now I’m asking a favor of all you great Feministing folks: does anyone know of a COMPLETE list of both PMS symptoms and the symptoms of hysteria?  Looking [...]

  • xeginy wrote a new blog post: Am I *really* a lesbian?   4 years, 8 months ago · View

The title pretty much says it all. I came out (as a lesbian) about six-ish months ago.  I came out to the two people I trust the most, my mom and my twin sister.  After the understandable "Q&A" segment, they were both very supportive. Six months later and I don’t know what the hell is going on.  Do [...]

  • xeginy wrote a new blog post: No Friends…Bad?   4 years, 9 months ago · View

Some quick background: I’ve had bad experiences with friends – relationships in general – in the past. My role has always either been doormat or caretaker, so I have been treated as such. Two years ago was when I ended my first (and only) serious romantic relationship (it lasted four years), and thus lost the last [...]
