http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_268743/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=nf6K7RTt the link for the dental assistant story is broken, btw. As for the study abroad article, I read that with marked interest, as I studied abroad in Paris this summer and will study in Berlin for 8 months in several days. One of the comments stood out to me: “”"We’ve seen a few studies [...]

I find what he is doing to be a good step forward in perhaps pushing other politicians to do the same thing. I’ve noticed the same thing on a constrained budget in terms of food in my current life- my friends will say “Why didn’t you just grab Subway or something in between classes?” Perhaps [...]

I’ve read the “Republicans think it will hurt homeschooling” thing a few times- where did they get that idea? No matter what I read I cannot find a link between what would happen if it were signed and homeschooling. At all. Did I miss something? Like, no matter how skewed or dumb the smidgen of [...]

I’m thankful for how epically awesome my life is, how lucky I am to have such great friends and family, etc cliche cliche.
    :D

  • Latte, cappuccino? A Republican, or the ability to choose what to do with my body? I JUST DON’T KNOW. And are what they are saying about Obama straight up not true? The thing about Medicare? To be honest googling it is useless because of course either side is going to say no or yes depending [...]

  • Melissa commented on the blog post Halloween open thread: did you go as a sexy _____?   1 year, 8 months ago · View

I went as a decided unsexy character- Starswirl the (Un)Bearded, a cartoon character. Completely covered, with a big floppy wizard hat. I was having fun and liked my costume, so I suppose that is empowerment? When I want to feel sexy I dress for it, and for me, Halloween wasn’t about being sexy, mostly because [...]

Come on Indiana… first that I was born in Missouri and Todd Akin is doing his stupidity and now this…. >.<
I think we should send him two copies of Our Bodies Ourselves.

I agree with the religious indoctrination I was put through in my education. At 16 aside from a few social issues I mostly followed my parents because I wasn’t sure how to make sense of all the economy/budget/international affairs that still is a bit overwhelming to research in depth. It would seem that a lot [...]

Also I didn’t see the other comments because I had typed half a response, left it there for a few hours, and finished it, so if I repeated stuff, my bad!

  • Melissa commented on the blog post What if kids could vote?   1 year, 9 months ago · View

There are a lot of positives to youth voting, my only concern would be that 16-year olds would not be yet educated enough to make an informed decision. Yes I know that many people are probably not educated enough and of voting age but at least in the state of Indiana where I graduated our [...]

Awww yeah I love that Hilz meme. I watched part of the anti-contraception video and read the article. Did the video seriously say that 99% of women are on contraception? What? Like… what? That seems insanely off… If they mean condoms that definitely ups the number but I don’t think 99% is correct anyway. Sort [...]

I guess I have a few issues with this. But please read the whole comment before/if anyone comments on this. First of all, it’s a leaked letter. If my privacy were equally destroyed as this person, I would feel awful and violated, no matter who it was. Second of all, I’m not sure if this [...]

Something else to add: saw this report on Fox News: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2012/09/14/birth-control-may-boost-risk-carrying-staph-bacteria/ Clearly there is an agenda here, as I feel like Fox News feels like it’s its second job to make people think BC is the devil, but what really peeved me were these parts in the article: Pass it on: Use of birth control [...]

I would post the hilarious Romney/Ryan slash-fic ponyplay porn I found but that is highly inappropriate. (But if you google I’m sure you will find it.)

Instead I went through the links posted here and found some good stuff :)

  • Melissa commented on the blog post Hook-up culture: Many young women prefer it and that’s not a bad thing   1 year, 11 months ago · View

As a girl in college (a Catholic/Jesuit university, but I feel no religious pressure on campus, so it feels nullified for the most part), I see lots of girls take part in either the monogamous one-relationship throughout college, and then the girls that hookup, and everything in between. It’s interesting reading the academic analysis explaining [...]

On the Iran/university article, I can’t help but feel angry at these countries and these traditions that keep these policies socially acceptable, and while I feel bad being angry at a culture (due to me not fully understanding the culture, etc) it just doesn’t feel right to me. Are there any articles I wonder that [...]

When I saw this on Tumblr, I was suspicious of the number. (Not that I am not for Obama, but I always want to fact check.) So I went to the PDF and checked out who was polled. It seemed that it was 1000 people were polled, only 12 percent were black. That’s only 120 [...]

Thanks for the Onion link! I sent it to a friend of mine because it was very good to share.

Wow, it’s not surprising to me that Fox News conducted that study… like, really? *sigh*

Glad to see more political figures standing behind same-sex marriage. I’m really looking forward to when someone from the GOP says it (maybe they already have and I missed it) but that would really send a shockwave through the country.
