  • Just try reading the comments section of any video of a black person getting arrested (whether they committed a crime or not) or quite literally anything having to do Islam. If you aren’t prepared to lose your faith in humanity you should probably avoid the comment sections of sites like Youtube entirely.

Those are some fascinating pictures of victims and perpetrators of the genocide in Rwanda standing side by side. The strength of those women to forgive the men who in many cases destroyed their families and livelihood is incredible. There’s a certain sadness etched on the people’s faces, as if they subtly acknowledge that they can’t [...]

  • I love these last two articles you’ve written on the portrayal of race and gender in gaming culture. The fantasy genre doesn’t get the credit it deserves as one of the most progressive forms of art in portraying how people of different cultures and backgrounds can manage to accept each other and learn to get [...]

I don’t wear “salmon shorts”, but if someone wants to, who frigging cares? This is vaguely racist middle school level humor here, and it’s not even that funny to begin with.

From the “white belly dancers” article: “Women I have confronted about this have said, “But I have been dancing for 15 years! This is something I have built a huge community on.” These women are more interested in their investment in belly dancing than in questioning and examining how their appropriation of the art causes [...]

  • “We have films like Schindler’s List, which celebrate Liam Neeson’s Oskar Schindler – the Nazi who used his power to save some of his Jewish workers. We have Kevin Costner’s Lt. John Dunbar in Dances with Wolves, who tries to save the Lakota Indian people from inevitable genocide. We have Amistad, a film about a [...]

I’m pretty sure you have the wrong link, and meant this instead:

I think we need to take this study with a grain of salt (I’d think that would be common sense on a feminism-themed blog). Here’s a couple of important points you did not mention in your post: 1. Relatively speaking, the difference in “satisfaction” between men who had a door opened for them and those [...]

  • That article does a stellar job making the administration at Patrick Henry look like fanatical, right wing lunatics. Is it good journalism, though? I felt like it could have been significantly better, any article making accusations of this magnitude deserves at least a response or counterpoint from the administration or an alumni. A few people [...]

  • It may not be an intellectual treatise on the nature of gender roles in society, but it offers a source of empathy, and a lot of these men suffering from anxiety need exactly that. I don’t think this article was intended to be a critical discussion, and I don’t see how it’s necessarily “half assed” [...]

Here’s a transcript I whipped up: “People always say I’m obsessed with race. ‘You’re obsessed with race! You’re obsessed with racism!’ You can’t be obsessed with race in America. There’s racist stuff that happens all the time. Saying that I’m obsessed with race and racism in America is like saying I’m obsessed with swimming when [...]
