My response to the NY Times Article on Evolutionary Psychology: Darwin may or may not have been wrong about dating. That New York Times article, however, does a very poor job of representing what the evolutionary psychologists think, and also a poor job at representing the extent to which men and women differ on average [...]

1) The summary of the study in the post is incorrect. The study does not examine women with “PMS”. In these ovulatory studies, they compare women in the low fertility phase of their cycle (5-9 days before onset of period) to women in the high fertility phase (16-20 days before onset of period). It is [...]

More importantly is how adult film stars feel. My understand from talking to some is that they don’t want condoms to be mandated. It’s painful to have that many hours of sex with that large of a penis with a condom. The testing mandate makes STI transmission extremely low.

Holy crap. What editor approved that god awful stigmatizing title for this feministing post? How is it acceptable to imply that an entire group is unethical? If the results had come out the other way, would you have run the title “Study shows poor people are less ethical”? Ridiculous. The title wasn’t trying to be [...]

“(1) this particular study and its finding have been challenged by evolutionary biologists and otber scientists (follow the links provided);” Oops, sorry, forgot to respond to this. I wasn’t impressed by the critiques. I agree that none of the studies provide a slam dunk that women have evolved defenses against rape. But one of the [...]

I appreciate your feedback. There are people in ev psych who work with sort of a general “feminist consciousness” – keeping an awareness of how gender ideologies can shape science and trying as best as possible to. At the last Northeastern Evolutionary Psychology Society meeting there was the first ever Feminist Evolutionary Psychology Society preconference, [...]

Hey Van, I was making a couple points. 1) The first one is completely in line with your point that media representations of ev psych can sensationalize sex differences and minimize culturally derived origins of behavior, which can have harmful effects. This is a point I (and I think many other commenters agreed on). This [...]
