Futrelle put up a nice story about how the Prostate Cancer Foundation rejected money raised through the distribution of these photos.

    In SC and on it!

Great article. I live in the south where we are notorious for our racism and misogyny problems. While I’m sure that our local brand of racism does not represent a complete picture of the “ideals” of racists nationally or internationally, I am surprised to see how this article completely misses the women involved in supporting [...]

  • I have no children of my own, but I do have 14 nieces and nephews and five siblings. We have always been a religious family. The never ending miracle that is my mother probably has the smartest approach that I’ve ever seen to this. It only works if you’re in a religious family, but here’s [...]

Why is it that activist bloggers can justify making a profit on the good work they do, while companies who obviously mean well are criticized for profiting from it. It’s one thing to say “I know you mean well, but you’re hurting the cause with this kind of action” when a company blunders, but that’s [...]

Is there any way that the Feministing crew can create a suggested reading list for mainstream feminists and study groups that includes more diverse voices than what we generally see? I think you all probably have suggestions more inclusive than the reading lists we see from other groups.

I live in SC and tomorrow, I’m joining an “intelligent discussion group” to discuss “the changing definition of rape”. Please pray for me! Lord knows I’m going to need some kind of help! Thanks Feministing for giving me all the ammo I need to prep for this “intelligent discussion”.

  • I wonder if there is any distinction between the different kinds of drug tests that companies can require… I know someone who failed a hair test because he’d smoked pot YEARS prior. He hadn’t touched anything in years, but he still failed it. Does this mean that anyone who has ever done any drug could [...]

  • According to NBC news, the pieces of the law requiring each clinic be a surgical center and the ban on abortion after 20 weeks will still go into effect. This is much, much better, but it’s still not good enough.

  • Unfortunately, I did read Mrs. Yoffe’s pathetic, unapologetic “response” to her critics. It’s just more of the same victim blaming – another chapter in her adequately described “rape denialism manifesto”. She not only stands by her opinion that “avoiding incapacitation could help them stay safe” but also calls out everyone who disagrees because they apparently [...]

  • Alisha Walker commented on the blog post Headline of the day: Fox News on Syria   1 year ago · View

I accidently flipped to this station last night (I thought I’d blocked it) and got to hear some of the wonderful commentary they offered. Apparently, some at FOX are convinced that there is a conspiracy in the works with Syria. They think that the whole thing played out too fast and too well for Obama, [...]

  • “like normal, standard people” makes me sick. Normal, standard people don’t marginalize an entire group of society making it illegal to exist. If this kind of legal action was targeted at any other group of people, Russia would be facing serious UN sanctions for human rights violations.

I’m a southern white girl and I’m constantly amazed at how many racists use the N-word in “white” company. It’s almost like they think I must be racist because I’m white, and that it’s ok to say when it isn’t directed at a specific person (or when that person probably won’t hear them). Most of [...]

  • Alisha Walker commented on the blog post Plan B over the counter is “a good deal for pedophiles,” duh!   1 year, 3 months ago · View

This whole video is ridiculous, but I love how they complain at the end that this is available over the counter while you have to sign for Sudafed. Because not getting pregnant is totally worse than making meth!

Are Danny Brown’s misogynistic lyrics relevant to the analysis of his alleged (by someone else) assault? No, completely irrelevant. Suggesting that his lyrics may have a role in what happened is just male focused slut shaming. Nobody asks to be raped, not even misogynistic men. Shouldn’t everyone seek an active yes, every time? There are [...]

  • Primarily, I think we need to let young people know that there are resources for knowledge, and that it’s ok to talk about sex openly. I have a nephew who graduated high school 2 years ago and is currently in college. A few weeks ago, I had a very surprising conversation with him and his [...]

  • Thanks for posting!!! I’m in SC, registered to vote and will spread the word! Honestly, I can’t believe he’s even trying to run for office again!

Very well said! It makes me tremendously happy that people like this are on the right side of our legal system!
