I hear you on the pro-Democratic, anti-Republican thing on this site. Sexism (or lack thereof) doesn’t quite fall so neatly along those lines. I certainly know of many Republicans in my local area (men & women) who I respect. And many Democrats who I don’t.
However, I thought the OP was joking about forced marriage and taking away the vote, and not seriously claiming it was Rick Santorum’s agenda.
Also, if you have to pick a Republican to defend, this guy might not be your first choice. His statements make it pretty clear that he sees single moms as a barrier to his agenda rather than part of the America he wishes to serve. To him, it doesn’t seem to matter if the women in question WANT to be married. Never mind how plain stupid it is. As if all you have to do is ”pair people up” (by what means, exactly? I dunno) and suddenly the women in those pairs will be voting Republican.
It’s like saying ”I wish more old people would leave the country so they’d stop voting for Social Security benefits I don’t agree with”. Pretty shitty, no? Would you say that the candidate is a good one for old people? Not in a million years!
Did the Republican party hire the same marketing team that came up with “Yorkie: it’s not for girls” ? Why would any self-respecting woman be a part of the Republican party anymore? I was a Republican years ago because I liked the idea of smaller government, but I quit when I realized that they were [...]
Does the United Way really let you choose to give to, say, 20 charities of your choice? (And whatever amount you’d like?) I always thought United Way gave to lots and lots of charities, but the individual donor didn’t really choose for themselves.
I would like to give very broadly (i.e. small amounts to many different places), but I hesitate to do so because I don’t want to be deluged with junk mail just from a $10 donation (and after a couple years of mail, I imagine my initial gift actually has a negative impact…). It actually stops [...]

Breastfeeding makes some women lose weight, but not all. Keep in mind that one of the hardest things about breastfeeding is making sure to eat enough nutritious food, because the baby doesn’t just take calories, but nutrients. If you’re not getting enough nutrients, then that’s bad for your weight loss over the long term. Also, I breastfed [...]
There’s an idea that’s been bouncing around in my head for a while which is hard to put into clear thoughts. I apologize in advance for the fragmented presentation and less than ideal wording of things. But I figure better to put it out there than keep it to myself. Anyway, there seems to be this cultural [...]
