Hey, who doesn’t love a little slash fic?

  • Show me a “naughty wolf boy” costume or similar, and one might have an argument in that direction, but if the “naughty” label is only applied to female costumes, it certainly is a lot more questionable.

I get that they are trying to avoid confusing their readers, some of whom might be a little slow on the uptake about issues like this, but seriously, how hard is it to use the new name and the female pronoun, with a quick nod of “formerly known as Bradley Manning” or “(formerly Bradley)”? Not [...]

I got NPR to email me the audio clip. If y’all feel like sharing it, is there some way I can email the clip to you?

I was listening to my local NPR station (KUOW FM in Seattle) at 9:00 AM today, and they were doing a bit on Seafair, a local celebration which takes place here every summer. Specifically, they were talking about the Seafair Pirates , a charitable organisation who dress in pirate costumes and collect donations during the festival. They [...]

I put “We Shall Overcome” (1963 Pete Seeger live version) on my iPod on my way home from work and sang along at the top of my lungs until I couldn’t hold back the tears. It’s incredible how far we’ve come, but there’s still so much work to do.

As a student of British history, I also think it’s really weird to specifically pick Anglo-Saxon heritage out of the mix. The British Isles have an enormously mixed history, which A-S being only one of the population groups to make up their heritage. What about the native Britons/Celts? The Picts? The Scots? The Romans? The [...]

My sister posted about this on FaceBook. Just thought I would pass it along to you guys: Please call or write in your support for a sweet mama named Sarah who is in a homeless shelter struggling to get on her feet with her 3 month old baby boy, who is being forced to cover [...]

  • I’m a 33yo American woman with a college education currently making just over minimum wage with no benefits. I can’t afford insurance. I can’t afford an IUD, even though I would really like one. I don’t plan to have children, at least not any time in the near future, and I would love to have [...]

Slightly off topic, but do y’all have the power to do anything about the fact that a National Pro-Life Alliance ad is appearing on the Feministing webpage? It was a bit jarring to see it there.

Alanna from Tamora Pierce’s “Song of the Lioness” quartet. She’s been my personal heroine since I was 13 (almost 20 years now). Who wouldn’t want to be a girl with a sword and magical powers, kicking ass all over the place? Of course, over the years, I’ve come to realise that there was even more [...]
