Thank you, sexist Twitter responders to Fem Frequency, for reminding me there are upsides to not having a Twitter account.

I hope WAM is able to see some results from the open letter to Facebook. I’ve reported a page several times and been repeatedly told the page does not fall under what they consider hate speech and thus no action will be taken. How blatant racism and sexism are not considered hate speech is beyond [...]

Thank you so much for this piece. As a woman with several male friends who are interested in, if not overtly claiming feminism, it is nice to see an ally who willing to both take on the emotional work, and write about it on the internet so others can benefit. I hope others will follow [...]

I read Outdated recently with a friend and it’s really given us courage and sparked some great conversations about how we see our love lives. Thank you so much for your insights and Happy Birthday!!

Anyone else notice that “Women’s Health” is on the “Pro-Life” side, while ironically forms of contraception are on the “Anti-Life” side? Apparently the person who put this together is irony-challenged.

Thanks so much for that last link–sad of course but very informative. It’s nice to see feminism and environmentalism aren’t mutually exclusive issues.

Just finished Outdated: Why Dating Is Ruining Your Love Life. Really enjoyed it, especially how it validated that grey space we’ve all spent time in. Looking forward to reading more from Feministing editors!

Recently, several male friends of mine have gotten involved in Women’s Studies classes and other class discussions that involve feminism, and a few have mentioned that they have felt alienated or attacked in such classes because they are male. I have not been in the same classes, so I can’t say first-hand what is going [...]

I’ve always loved Anne Hathaway, she’s sweet, talented, an unapologetic activist, and somehow manages to keep her cool in a crisis. Not many Hollywood actresses are capable of all that.

Just saw Makers on the internet. It was great to hear about consciousness raising and Roe v. Wade from the people who really lived it, but I was disappointed that online feminists were not included. Just because we’re marching in cyberspace instead of the streets doesn’t mean we’re not marching.

Given what little I’ve seen of Family Guy, I was bracing myself for Seth MacFarlane to do something like this. I do think Anne Hathaway had a great mention of combating violence against women at the end of her speech: “Here’s hoping that sometime in the not-so-distant future the misfortunes of Fantine will only be [...]

Congratulations to s.e. smith for the great piece. I have been struggling a bit myself with this story because disability representations and violence against women are both issues that matter to me. I will admit is was a bit sad to see a disabled “hero” knocked off the pedestal, and simultaneously a relief to see [...]

Thank you so much for including your personal story in this post–adding a human face to issues like this really brings out the importance of legislation like VAWA in a way school books can’t, I recently sent a letter about the treaty addressing disability that the U.S. failed to sign (you’d think this would be [...]

Not sure this is technically a response, since it was written long before these videos were made, but Lady Mary Wortley Montagu actually wrote a response to people who said she was too frigid, and it was basically, “I choose to be single because all my suitors are jerks,” elongated into ballad poetry form.

Agreed, I thought the original was really funny, but that straight guy response…yikes. Not to say all straight men are like this of course, but if the guys in the video were my dating pool, it would surprise nobody that I stayed single.

On the subject of women and gaming, I recently discovered the web series The Guild, which focuses on the adventures of a girl and her friends in an online guild (3 women, 3 men). I suspect it’s supposed to be a bit of a spoof on World of Warcraft, but never having played WOW, I can’t [...]

Say it ain’t so, Elmo, say it ain’t so! Such a shame when you find out these sorts of things about your childhood heroes. Also, loved the piece on Ryan Murphy, summed up my mix of admiration for and frustration with him very nicely.
