Does this mean that women cannot buy birth controls products and services on their own? Why is government always have to be the final arbiter of choice?

The problems of low income women, long term unemployment for women are not insoluble. The biggest issue plaguing women and men are regulations. The best example is Uber – the ride sharing service. You can rent out your car to someone for an hour, a day whatever you feel like you can provide. It gives [...]

If you could define a living wage that would be good. Its a different wage in different parts of the country. And what happens if I really like the job and I don’t want you to get it. I say to the boss, I will do it for less than the living wage? Am I [...]

  • Veronica, surely you jest. If it weren’t for individualistic solutions we wouldn’t have much of an economy. My partner and I come from 2 different parts of the world (Cuba and India). We have both seen the socialist solutions for both of our countries. My partner came on the Marielitos boat lift and I came [...]

It is odd to note that feministing did not say something similar when the former governor of Alaska was brutalized by the media. There were many comments about Ms. Sarah Palin that didn’t even merit complaint by feministing. One particular comment by Mr. Martin Bashir was that someone should crap in Ms. Palin’s mouth really [...]

  • rocinante3d commented on the blog post Pie chart: Why do we read Feministing?   9 months, 4 weeks ago · View

I am really confused about the reasons for reading Feministing, probably because I am a guy. My family were feminists even before the term was coined. My mother broke all barriers by getting a full college scholarship, becoming a physician and raising her family. This might not seem unusual except for the fact that this [...]

A general letter to the people that read Feministing:

Several weeks ago a noted journalist Mr. Martin Bashir suggested that Ms. Sarah Palin is an ”idiot” and suggested that defecating and urinating in her mouth is a proper course of action.

I didn’t see any howls of outrage on this blog at that notion. In fact there was no mention at all on this blog about coming to her defense or indeed making a comment to disagree with Mr. Bashir.

Could it be that some women are more equal than others on this blog?

Rather than relying on government to prevent violence against women, is it not possible for women to rely on themselves to prevent violence. One methodology adopted by a woman in Illinois seems rather sensible to me. Ms. Debi Keeney age 55 found her confronted with an intruder who broke into her home. The intruder was [...]

My favorite Hilary moment is when she invested $1,000 in cattle futures which magically turned into $100K.

Bernadene, This is not a laughing matter. An US ambassador was killed along with others. When was the last time that happened? Why did it happen? Why was nothing done to prevent it? Why was no help sent when the ambassador asked it for explicitly? Why is assuming responsibility the only thing you can do? [...]

Perhaps you can mansplain to it me. There was an ambassador killed in Libya as well as other people. Somebody needs to get their heads chopped off for screwing it up so badly that people were killed. What’s the mansplation for screwing up so badly? Just waving your hands around is insufficient explanation. Which part [...]

Current wars as shown by (Iraq, Afghanistan and others) seem to require special operators (Rangers, Delta Force and the like). Small units of Marines and other special operators that can survive of the land for long periods of time are becoming de rigeur. The need to be physically fit and resilient under all circumstances is [...]

I would like to talk about women in combat, specifically in the front lines. Having been a squad leader in the US Army, I don’t think this is a viable idea.

Our family served in Desert Storm and my father was dead set against my mother going to Ft. Sam Houston which was not in the combat zone.

I served in other places as a squad leader and I don’t see why Sec Def has to engage in such radical social engineering. It is fantastic to see women as medic’s, intel officers, police officers and even helo operators but I don’t see them as snipers, special forces or engaged in direct front line combat.

Yes I know the Israeli’s and the Russians have them probably even the Norwegians but I remain a chauvinist in this fact. I don’t want to see my wife, sister or mother captured in combat and paraded in front of the world as a POW.

I would like to hear the feminist opinion on this matter.
