i appreciate reading/hearing people’s thoughts on this really complex issue. somehow i think it is not responsible to ”censor” the book in this way. i think we need to hold mark twain accountable for what he wrote, instead of just erasing it because it’s embarrassing to have a book as widespread as huckleberry finn with such egregious language.
i think some people view the change as a kind of ’updating.’ that the n-word was just a ’sign of the times’ and not to be scrutinized. i don’t agree. i think that taking it out is an erasure of white supremacy so that white folks can ’have our cake and eat it too’ (if that makes sense).
