I think most people don’t really think about this word. Sure it can have negative connotations, but often people use it just to mean “interesting”. Maybe you should edit it though – there is no Lebanese language. In Lebanon, they speak a mixture of French, Arabic and English. “Sharmutah” is an Arabic word, not a Lebanese.
