Would we respond this way if the story were about women collecting unusual wooden sculptures? Or first-run books, or musical instruments? Or are we responding this way because these women are diving into a “women’s” culture of nurturing children, and we think they should be doing, I don’t know, more?
I think no, we would not [...]

I have never gotten the arguments that self-objectification is feminist. No, likewise, I would not tell a woman to cover up because everyone should have the agency to choose how they present themselves to the world — just because I don’t like your choice, as feminist, I support your right to make that choice… just [...]

Libby Anne at Love, Joy Feminism helpfully illustrated the difference between conservative and progressive understandings of sexual acts. It doesn’t excuse but certainly helps make clear Akin, Ryan, and Smith’s comments. If you don’t want to follow the hyperlink where Libby Anne had made a nice chart:
…conservatives divide sexual acts into “wrong” or “okay” [...]

Considering the rate of voter participation, I doubt that we could get the critical mass necessary to make it work. Add to that the self-sorting that we do, it is likely that those men (it seems somewhat beside the point for most same-sex couples to participate) most directly affected by the sex strike would also [...]

*Sigh* there are some serious issues with the methodology of the analysis of the gentrification of ZIP codes… not that there isn’t an issue with gentrification or that this couldn’t be a quick useful sketch to point researchers in the right direction but don’t read too much into that one analysis. The most gentrified ZIP [...]

I agree, I don’t know enough about her politics but I do like the idea of someone like her using the notoriety that she’s gained to enter politics. I would disagree slightly with Eesha. Every comment I’ve heard her make about the private-vs.-federal dollars issue is that she was clarifying what she was testifying about [...]

I work with large-scale (i.e., national and state) data sets occasionally, though I am not an expert. I am certain that as things currently stand the demographic information alone – before you even start talking about sensitive, personal medical information – would either cause data to be suppressed for areas with small populations or those [...]

Gen Y (I really dislike that label) women can’t do those things or have not (yet) taken the time to learn them??? In 1950, were there magazines moaning about how young brides didn’t know how to kill a chicken for Sunday dinner because of their fancy supermarkets? Maybe they were… None of these things is [...]

Hmmm… this has me thinking about media and female role models when I was growing up. I don’t remember anyone in particular and the interesting comics and cartoons were just as male-centric, probably more so, then as now. Yes, I think it is as sad and disappointing that not much has changed but from my [...]

What you permit, you promote… “real leadership” put this guy(s) in charge of pledges and did not (?) vet his plans or did and didn’t put a stop to it. This is not an isolated incident at Yale or more generally. It is a problem in fraternities and institutions of higher education in general.

Sorry for all the typos… I will try that second paragraph again:
Marching through campus where most female freshmen live while saying that is sexual harassment, is inciting violence against women, and is targeting that particular group of young women…
To say otherwise it is to claim that you do not have the intelligence or social awareness necessary to [...]

An “impressive apology,” sorry, no. So it isn’t as bad as it could be but… Marching through campus where most female women saying that is not sexual harassment, is inciting violence against women, and is targeting that particular group of young women… And “what was said” … you said it, own up to it. Granted this was toward [...]
