I am making a zine and I am looking for people to collaborate with/anyone who would just want to contribute, anything would be really helpful. It is focused on abuse from people within the radical community. I recently got out of a relationship with a man who identified as a radical and a radical feminist but who was also profoundly abusive to me. This was obviously complicated and difficult to deal with for a number of reasons, but one of these was the fact that this abuse was coming from a man who was in my community of radicals, activists, and queers. This occurs to me to be a community problem as well: abuse can occur within our community, and from those who claim to have more enlightened politics. People’s public politics can sometimes stand in direct conflict with their personal behavior, and we often forget that this behavior can occur within our community as well as outside.
I plan to make this zine anonymously as it is partly intended to address a community problem that I feel is often obfuscated or waxed over, and is also part of my own larger therapeutic process, but is not intended to directly slander anyone. I won’t be identifying anyone, including myself, by name in the zine. I think it will be helpful to hear other people’s stories and for our community to realize that this is a problem for us as well, and that no one gets ”passes.” I would love contributions of any sort, and to hear, from anyone with similar experiences. You can contribute or communicate with me anonymously at the email add associated with the zine: email@example.com, but if anyone is interested on collaborating with more technical stuff/actually putting it together, I would be totally happy and appreciative. Please email me with any questions or anything. Thanks so much.
