I wonder if you ask the same questions about pepper spray. Apart from questions about ease of voluntary removal, I think the criticisms here are unreasonable.

So merely by being a racial minority, she is required to be a spokesperson for it?

Not to nitpick, but you should probably leave a space in between the last two stories. Some people might get the wrong idea about the series of events.

  • Julie commented on the blog post Quick hit: Kate Harding has a message for Men’s Rights Activists   1 year, 7 months ago · View

It’s a shame that it seems so many so-called “men’s rights activists” are just entitled douchers. It makes it difficult, if not dang near impossible to address legitimate issues of human rights affecting men (because there are some and they matter.) If I were a man concerned with men’s rights, I would absolutely hate these [...]

  • Julie commented on the blog post Australia to implement paid paternal leave next year   1 year, 9 months ago · View

Better idea: Get rid of maternity and paternity leave all together. Employees should use their paid vacation time, for whatever reason they’re taking off. Otherwise you’re either discriminating against people who aren’t parents, or, yes, accepting a public subsity for a private action (which, presumably, the public doesn’t get any say in.)

Well, not all of it. The parts that are original are good. Just having similarities is fine, especially as the community is likely to be like-minded on a number of things.

I like this list better when I’m reading the parts that you wrote rather than the parts that I wrote slightly re-worded.

  • Julie commented on the blog post My Childfree Rules   2 years, 4 months ago · View

Yeah… what you’ve written here is pretty much taken directly from the list on my blog, almost word-for-word. And then you didn’t even link! Compare: This list – “16) I will not pretend that I find anything about parenting appealing: I simply don’t. I am not phased by “Kodak” moments, intelligible child conversation, drooly kisses [...]

Nice list. Looks awfully familiar though… http://hikinghumanist.com/2012/03/06/my-childfree-rules/

How? No, really, HOW is any of this petulant, immature, spiteful, or confrontational? Are CF people only allowed to be CF if we’re silent about it, or go out of our way to worship natalism if we do?

  • Julie commented on the blog post The Child-Free vs. “Breeder” war: why are we fighting it?   2 years, 10 months ago · View

It’s true that a significant number of women have their access to contraception, accurate pregnancy tests, sex education (including information on pregnancy options,) and their access to abortion itself compromised. That fact is not to be ignored. But I doubt that this is the case for all of the 44% of unintended pregnancies that are [...]

No offense, Honeybee, but I have to call bullshit on just about everything you’ve said. “In the grand scheme of things pregnancy doesn’t last very long, and the “side effects” are really quite minimal compared to how you portray it. Even labour, true labour, is pretty quick. And if you use painkillers you can’t feel [...]

Let’s not paint with broad brushes. Not all CF people are antagonistic just like not all parents are. So, the problem is CF people talking to each-other in a way that doesn’t adequately revere parenthood? Yeah, in a society that practically worships natalism, we like to speak our minds in our little havens. That means [...]

  • Julie commented on the blog post PETA’s latest fail: animal cruelty is just like slavery   2 years, 12 months ago · View

I don’t think euthanasia is necessarily animal cruelty, if it can be done humanely. Even the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, has to put animals down. Sometimes it just has to be done. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the truth. Shelters only have the space, funds, and staff to support a [...]

As if Jill Stanek wasn’t enough of a bigot, she had to add transphobia to her list. On March 18th, Jessica Sideways published her article, An Object Lesson In Abortion: Parasitic Relationships on the prochoice blog, The Golden Coat Hanger . In response to this, on her own blog , rather than replying to anything Jessica had said (evidently, she couldn’t,) [...]

Thumbnail(Cross-posted on my blog ) Last year, a blogger who desperately wanted to be a mother captivated the web as she wrote about the progression of her pregnancy. Tragically, like so many women, her pregnancy was not viable. What do you do when you desperately wish to have a child, but know that it will not survive? It’s [...]

Thumbnail(Cross-posted on my blog ) As I was driving around Colorado Springs I happened to notice a group of people standing around in a circle on a sidewalk. They were packed very tightly into a circle, between the busy road and a small fence. Just past them, was a private drive that lead to a complex of a couple medical [...]
