i think the point was to mention (and give credience to) non-traditionally-female career paths. abby asks “so what kind of careers can a girl like me have?” you’ll notice teacher, chef/cook, fashion designer, etc. are also not mentioned. i think the point was to break out of the “dont ask me, im just a girl/math [...]

i found this “checkmate” to be incredibly short sighted.

terry’s new website is kinda sad. there are about 50 posts total and several are from trolling pro-choicers.

(darn it, i hit the report button instead of reply – it was a mistake!) very true. and the City and Creator themes have houses and there was also a horse trailer set for City. but the ratio of male to female minifigs has been very low. in the popular themes in my house, there’s [...]

ive also noticed stores (target specifically) puts the Friends line in the “girls” section while the rest of the LEGO lines are firmly in the “boys” section in between the aisles of dolls…i mean action figures and nerf guns. the boxes are even different. the non-Friends themes are all right angle boxes (with the exception [...]

  • jillian commented on the blog post Who would attend your “last supper”?   2 years, 5 months ago · View

this work is called the dinner party, not “the last supper” by the wonderful feminist mixed media artist judy chicago. I got to see some of her work at the women’s museum in DC several years ago.

  • this is the same gal who said women using pics of their kids as their facebook avatar were infantilising themselves and hiding behind their children. really, this gal just needs to STFU already.

  • i meant that, if it wasnt for the handcuffs and uniforms, the video looks like a group of dudes trying to figure out which bar to go to. in one instance, both officers turn their back on him, assuming he will follow. am i used to seeing cops treat arrestees like assholes?maybe. innocent protestors are [...]

  • also, if he was beat up that badly, there would be EMT and other medical records. Was an autopsy done on Trayvon before his body was released to the funeral home? I’m also just struck by the casual way he’s walking around; it’s almost like he’s an afterthought in the officers’ minds and not a [...]

looking regionally for me, i was shocked to see oklahoma (particularly the entire southern border) in red. oklahoma city and tulsa seem to have some protection. i wonder if health disparities in native americans has something to do with it or the rural-ness of the area with little industry or jobs other than the huge [...]

ugh. not another one of these. ok. if a co-worker/friend/highschool classmate was posting pictures of their cats, their lego collection, their garden, their clothes or other purchases, complaining about their jobs, gushing about their jobs, complaining about their partners, gushing about their partners or any other random ass personal idea about their life on facebook, [...]

Re: Michigan. I’ve noticed some folks in my own small circle of liberal/leftie people getting pissy about angel tree and other holiday charities about what the kids there are asking for – “I wouldn’t buy that for my own kids, why should I get it for some charity case?”. And while it’s kinda annoying I [...]

dont get me flippin’ started about rick perry. in his inaugral speech said: “As Texans, we always take care of the least among us. The frail, the young, the elderly on fixed incomes, those in situations of abuse and neglect, people whose needs are greater than the resources at their disposal – they can count [...]

  • jillian commented on the blog post Salon closes Broadsheet.   3 years, 8 months ago · View

For much of the last year, Broadsheet has been a one-woman show performed by Tracy Clark-Flory. so rather than hire someone else, or a couple elses. we’re just gonna stop doing it. is it any wonder many women feel “if i dont do it, no one will”? We’re immensely proud of the role it’s played raising intensely [...]

as a midwestern i have to say, go iowa. i know the two coasts tend to think theyre the shit and the harbingers of everything good and hip and whatever and all those square states in the middle are filled with nothing but rubes, but yeah. midwest pride. been to new york, been to california, [...]

  • jillian commented on the blog post Palin want a cracker?   4 years, 1 month ago · View

“cackle” must be another Palin-ism in the lines of refudiate. maybe she meant “gaggle” (a group of geese) but, as stated above, but need to put a group of grumpy women spin on it.
