This is such bull. Like someone else said reread the third paragraph. Minimize looking like a target? Are you kidding? Let me guess. You also are of the variety who think unattractive girls get raped? Or like women in burquas never get raped? Rape has nothing to do with how someones dressed or how much [...]

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post On the lack of ‘real’ porn   2 years, 8 months ago · View

I understand what you’re saying. Most hetero porn has women as the focus with the man just being a “stand in” – like a disembodied penis the viewer can replace himself with from the camera point. First I suggest going to an adult store to find DVDs instead of looking online. Swank and Jules Jordan [...]

Completely agree – you’re 100000% spot on. Usually when people cling to “oh well their hormones ARE raging” they’re, again, fishing for anything to de-legitimize what the woman’s saying. It’s about respect, and how that “oh yer pmsing hur hur” excuse is a sneaky way to say “I’m not respecting you or what you have [...]

Exactly :< that's what's most disturbing to me – is that this is seen as normal and fine.

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post How Can You Live As a Feminist?   3 years ago · View

Warning this is a long post haha I never tend to have problems explaining things to my fiance. I never really had to alter his view on things, we both consider ourselves feminists. My personality is that I’m really open minded. If I feel like I’m being judged by close mindedness I will automatically feel [...]

Yeah, I’ve seen pages get taken down pretty fast on Tumblr, for example, but not so much on Facebook or Youtube for that matter. As much as I think it depends on the volume of complaints, I have a feeling the type of report plays a factor as well. Which is pretty sad.

It’s important to recognize that a social networking site, at some level, represents an extension of our selves. So with applications like pages on Facebook, it’s easy to click, like, and show the world (because your name and photo aren’t hidden from that) what you like, agree with, find humorous, etc. Sometimes pages are created [...]

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post The Name Game   3 years, 1 month ago · View

I’m Chilean and we add on the last name. First name middle name your father’s surname your mother’s surname de your husband’s surname. This is wonderful, there, but in America, where I am, and in Australia, where I’m moving, they literally don’t allow you to have such a long name. They have a specific amount [...]

It was very good analysis of you to notice the sexism in those tweets/hashtag comments you see. The one about “eat!!” though – the person still referred to women as bitches. I think in any variety there are many things women will disagree with, especially since we’re not all feminists and looking/analyzing the world from [...]

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post Bullying: I do not think the problem is what you think it is.   3 years, 9 months ago · View

I think you pinpointed the problem exactly. I don’t know why there is this aversion to dealing with the problem of bullying and trying to put agency on those being bullied. But it needs to stop and the bullying needs to be addressed and not brushed off with either a “that’s how kids are” mentality [...]

Why tell young people how to protect themselves? Oh, I don’t know, so they can protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies and STD’s. Teaching a kid how to properly use a condom isn’t going to make them fuck like rabbits, and if they do, at least they’ll do it safely. I don’t understand the mentality of [...]

Wow, I love you for this. This trend is annoying as, and pinpoints exactly why I can’t stand it/those films.

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post Bruno Mars and a Search for Beauty   3 years, 9 months ago · View

Exactly. Literally I came back from the gym and heard a seemingly “real life” conversation of this exact thing. This guy was talking to a girl who was on an elliptical and she was talking about her day and tacked on “Oh and I ate, that’s why I’m here, got to work it off.” And [...]

I don’t really feel the need to go into representation of women in the media because I assume that it’s something everyone knows about. I assume that everyone is like me and analyzes every song, music video, commercial, movie, TV show, advertisement, comedy sketch, and magazine that they see. Understanding the power structures and how [...]

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post Long-distance relationships and gendered expectations   3 years, 12 months ago · View

Agreed. I also notice that when you’re dealing with long distance across countries, people always assume one person is going to move to the most western, most ‘developed’ country. In my case, I’m in the US, and my fiance is in Australia, and everyone assumes he’s going to move here, even blatantly saying that moving [...]

  • Tiffany commented on the blog post Sexism is sexist!   3 years, 12 months ago · View

Agreed, so so much. Ironic actually, I recently posted a video about this on my YT account (here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUsh_uU_9kc ) Something that contributes t the gut reaction people like that give might be due to guilt or confusion they have. They think that you’re calling them sexist, so they get irrationally (and lazily) [...]
