I have personal knowledge of one case where a male was accused and charged with a felony for committing statutory rape. This is the first case I have seen of a female who committed the same crime being charged, but I’m sure that’s mostly my not paying a lot of attention.

Is it possible to oppose rape culture and ignorance without hating ignorant people raised by rape culture?
Reconstruction wasn’t about hating former slavers, was it?

Dan commented on the blog post Feminist radicalism isn’t a “brand problem” 2 weeks, 6 days ago · View
Lots of feminists disagree about what feminism is and should be. This isn’t about people who disagree, it’s about people who agree on the major principles but don’t want to be associated with the angry bra-burning radical image that many people associate with the word “feminism”.

Dan commented on the blog post The effects of unchecked criminalization: Teen charged with felony for science experiment 3 weeks, 1 day ago · View
Would your opinion be the same if the exact same actions were taken but a bystander were to be permanently blinded by the superheated steam and drain cleaner that was the explosion? Only factors completely uncontrolled by the students involved separate what you call a harmless experimentation from a tragedy. If the punishment is lenient, [...]

It’s reaching to call the actions described a ‘science experiment’. She knowingly created and detonated an explosive, within about 50 feet of an occupied building and well within 100 yards of nonparticipating pedestrians, and without being able to estimate the yield of the explosion. I wouldn’t call it ‘discharging a weapon’ or ‘placing a destructive [...]

> The clear message is that guys can’t be part of a generally woman-led movement, and we need to cater to their need to feel manly. The first half of that is a message that is already present everywhere, including here. It’s to chase men off by dismissing their concerns and then object when someone [...]

Dan commented on the blog post Why are teenage rape survivors being driven to suicide? 1 month, 1 week ago · View
This is a hard question: Given the baseline rate of teen rape victims and teen suicides, are there more or fewer than expected combinations of the two? Looking at the rape statistics, we should expect that about one in every 3 to 15 (depending on what source you use) female suicide had been raped if [...]

What. The. F. Seriously, you couldn’t include the Black Widow (herself a problematic stereotype) in the ensemble picture of the shirt for girls? For reference, she appeared in Tales of Suspense No. 52, April 1964, and joined the Avengers in Avengers #111, 1973, so she was a member of the team when they were still [...]

Is “Criminal” still the label applied to people who choose to violate the law? That hardly seems like less of a negative label to apply to people who have immigrated illegally.

I’he quote “The violence during Saddam’s time was…committed by the government, Saddam’s family, people in power. Now the violence is…being committed by everyone around you.” probably best summarizes the situation.

Looking at the cases cited in the gun-banning reference, it appears that almost all of the violence would be prevented if people accused of threatening others with firearms were arrested (on the aggravated assault charge) and access to firearms was removed as a condition of bail. At least, almost all of the cases where requiring [...]

At about 7:18 p.m. on Jan. 16, Officer DuPont spotted a blue Acura TL with a front headlight, traveling on Howard Avenue near Putnam Street. He stopped the car near Spring Street. While he was waiting for back-up, the car took off. DuPont pursued the car through the Hill, until Sgt. Harkins radioed him to call [...]

Either health insurance is in general insterstate commerce, and states may not regulate it, or it is not, in which case the entire federal mandate is moot.
It would be interesting if the second succession war was over abortion instead of slavery.

Under the laws of the United States, there is no prohibition of a private group from limiting membership on any grounds.
That does not mean that we can’t or shouldn’t shame them for regressive policies.

Duke university lacrosse team.
It’s easy enough to be sure that one isn’t a rapist; it’s much harder to be sure that one isn’t going to be falsely accused. That’s why the .2% or so in the bottom corner bothers me personally about as much as the mere 1% or so in the top right.

The claim that Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine and 18 other senators have isn’t that women are more collaborative than men.
It’s that women senator’s styles tend to be less confrontational and more collaborative than the style of House Speaker John Boehner.
I’m sure that claim is a little bit more agreeable.
