Dani Pettas wrote a new blog post: MRAs attempt rebranding as ‘Men’s Human Rights Activists’ 3 months, 3 weeks ago · View
Last Spring, the Southern Poverty Law Center ( splcenter.org) profiled a group of websites as promoting misogyny. Among these were some popular spaces for “the men’s rights movement,” including avoiceformen.com, the-spearhead.com , mensactivism.org and the men’s rights subreddit . On January 21st 2013 , A Voice for Men used the words, “privileged white bitches in our dust” to boast outranking Feministing.com via Alexa’s traffic data. (AVfM may not [...]

Great post..
I think that gender norms and out-dated ideas of masculinity are definitely part of the problem with gun culture and violence in the US.
It’s worth noting that the shooter’s mother was the gun-enabler, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/17/nancy-lanza-firearms-purchases_n_2318599.html
For the Newton shooting, I don’t think the masculinity dynamic is so clear cut.

Great post.
I really liked Amanda Marcotte’s piece.
I think that “decadence” was Douthat’s Aikin moment.
She called him out on that: “Douthat is clearly irritated at his countrymen and especially his countrywomen for their persnickety desire to enjoy life rather than see it as a dutiful trudge to the grave.”

Great introduction.
I would like to see more discussion in feminist spaces about what a better future would look like, in the vein of the “utopian imagination” comment.

Also, it’s noteworthy that Sara Palin just made the racist comment, “shuck and jive.” I seriously doubt that she just happened to use that phrase of her own volition.
Palin’s comment and this thing by Trump could be part of a planned last minute effort to put some racist dog whistling out there.

Colbert is the exactly the right person to respond to Trump.
It’s because Trump is further degrading news coverage by injecting a non-reality based narrative, that he himself writes the script for.

It’s unfortunate that Romney uses word play to hide what his true positions on reproductive rights are.
