Clarence Thomas’s Wife Asks Anita Hill to Apologize

Virginia Thomas (wife of Supreme Court Clarence Thomas) called the office of Anita Hill and left a voice asking Hill to apologize for her testimony during Clarence Thomas’s nomination hearing. To quote Jake Tapper’s article:

“Good morning, Anita Hill, it’s Ginny Thomas. I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. OK, have a good day.”

I was too young and unaware to follow the hearing, so I cannot properly revisit that aspect of the story. What I will do is consider the call (mostly) on its own merits.

Virginia Thomas is not a witness to Clarence Thomas’s workplace conduct. She may trust her husband, but she cannot know with absolute certainty about any events that happened. She is in a poor position
