“I am usually a very shy person, and now I am more outgoing. I was able to teach those children about certain things like snakes that we have and the turtles that we have. … I want to do something toward that, working with children when I get older.” These inspiring words come from a high school [...]

Claire Moshenberg wrote a new blog post: Banana Suit Gumption, or Why I Love Parenthood’s Amber Holt 1 year, 6 months ago · View
I fell in love with Amber Holt on “Parenthood” during last season’s Halloween episode, when she skipped the traditional “animal ears and lingerie” costume route and showed up to a frat party dressed as a giant banana. Her friend, sporting the classic scantily clad barmaid look, balked. The older SAT tutor her friend was lusting after raised his [...]

I used to babysit a house full of smart, awesome girls. They played pirates, staged elaborate kitchen science experiments, and read books by the case-full. For half an hour every evening, we sprawled out on the couch and tuned in to the ongoing exploits of a myriad of makeup lacquered, fresh out of elementary school [...]

Shauna Miller, the blogger behind Penny Chic , has been racking up accolades for her frugal fashion brain child. It’s not surprising: Miller’s ensembles are attractive, trendy, and hilariously inexpensive. Instead of mining Fashion week collections for pricey pairings, Miller composes her outfits exclusively out of Walmart clothing. With post-Recession graduates still struggling to find employment, the [...]

Thanks for posting this—-I hated that bra colors campaigns (and so did a lot of breast cancer survivors, great blog on that here: http://toddlerplanet.wordpress.com/2010/01/08/in-the-name-of-awareness/) and I’m disappointed to hear that there’s a new waste-of-time-dressed-up-as-activism.

Tracy, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I loved this part in particular: “Brown said he’s “tired of hearing about this shit?” Well, he should have thought of that before he raised a hand to Rhianna.”
I agree, 500%.

I am not a fan of Chris Brown. Like the rest of the country (except for a few unfortunate victim-blaming-nay-sayers), I was horrified by his assault of Rihanna, I was disgusted by his recent homophobic Twitter rant , and I was freaked out by the catchy mind control game that was his Wrigley’s endorsed track “Forever.” The road to redemption for [...]

(Originally posted on MomsRising.org) There are two pictures from my childhood that I think of often, the classic kind that live for years on family refrigerators and mantels. One shows a little boy and I, very young and impossibly blond, too concentrated on our game to notice the snap of an aunt’s camera from across the room. [...]

Today, my friend Ashley and I reminisced over alternately hilarious and cringe-worthy episodes from our middle school and high school days. We sifted through over a decade’s worth of birthdays, old friends, mixtapes, and a cavalcade of genuinely unfortunate outfits. These stories featured many reoccurring characters, but one person kept popping up in both of our [...]

It’s misogynistic. It’s trashy. It’s a hotbed of mean girl shenanigans, 80’s night-time soap worthy greed, and a variety of scenes straight out of the Body Dysmorphia Olympics. But I can’t help myself. There is a dichotomy in my world that pops up every Thursday night: I am a feminist who watches the Real Housewives of [...]

When Kellogg’s dropped bong-loving merman Michael Phelps, their spokeswoman stated “we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model.” Though some called the decision hasty, it certainly sent a message: [...]

There are two grammatically incorrect questions that you have most likely encountered at one time or another. Maybe they stared down at you from a billboard during your morning commute. Maybe they were plastered across the ads section of your college newspaper. For many women, the answer to these two questions is positive: Pregnant? Yes. Need [...]
