  • Giving her an award is great.

Actually listening to what she has to say about stopping the bombing of Pakistan so that other girls like her could also have an education would be even better.

I sort of agree with what you say but i would correct it with “men should not be in leadership positions in feminism at all”, whether they are exceptional or not. For pretty much all the reasons you stated.

  • “We live in a world in which gender is not determined by genitalia”-erm what world are you living in-because actually we do in a social context. The reason gender is such a problematic issue is because, from birth, people are assigned a gender based on their sex organs. If this wasnt the case you would [...]

“They’re just being themselves” and thats ok because…? Given the ingrained notion around women speaking and mansplaining in this cultural context I thought it would be clear why all those examples are very problematic.

  • “Angelina Jolie made her choice. When I first saw the headline, I thought, oh no!” “Then I realized she gave it thought, naturally, she sees the immense benefit considering her family history, and it’s not my business. I’m a fan of her action movies, and not for her body, but her body and health are [...]

really john, come off it. 3 seconds of cock does not compare to the graphic female nudity and porny view of women in GoT. I imagine, as many had said, its not so much the showing of female breasts its the very one sided nudity in the series. but then again i guess i shouldnt [...]

“Terrorist attacks like the recent bombing never happen in the context of inter-gender conflict, but they do happen in the context of racial, ethnic, religious conflict (this bombings seems to have been motivated by religious ideology). And that’s why I think that terrorists’ race/ethnicity/gender is more salient than their gender.” not always, often political conflict [...]

“If all cultures (read: religions, but — be honest, how many times do you hear someone defend their culture and what they really mean is their way of life as described by their faith?)” I tend to have the opposite problem especially when talking to other people about my faith, in fact its happened a [...]

  • so, franziska, your are suppoedly totally right and knowledgeable, your opinion based on “facts” yet you say: “like when they proclaim that menstruation is an illness.” surely, you would know that, at least in Islam menstruation is NOT considered a form of illness, and that it is NOT punishment for “Eve causing Adam to sin” [...]

  • hello again-i will try to make this as concise as possible. “If Islam does not give favor to believers, are you saying that prayer is useless (as answering prayers is a form of favor)?” newsflash-Muslims are not the only people who pray. Islam teaches anyone who prays to the Almighty whether they be Muslim or [...]

  • i’ll try and keep this concice, but thats hard. apologies in advance. “The Quran actually has different verses that seem to contradict that idea, such as 5:56-37.” bit cunfused as the Quar’an has Surah’s not verses, i assume you mean them to be the same, when i looked it up its a passage about thieves. [...]

  • oh goodness here we go again “Let’s all continue to believe that it’s progressive and “intelligent” for people to think that women’s hair follicles are somehow more immodest than those of men.” I cant speak for any other religious or cultural belief but in Islam the rule is the same for men as it is [...]

  • “What is it with this blindness towards some of the most oppressive regimes on the planet? Oh, don’t say anything bad about Iran or Saudi Arabia – you know, like, that’s Islamophobic.” There is nothing wrong with critisizing regimes-as long as you know what you are talking about. what tends to piss people off, like [...]

  • “patriarchal religions that treat women like third class beings” oh goodness not this crap again. “The problem isn’t Ikea it is the belief in imaginary magic invisible sky daddies that mandate the abuse of women.” the “sky daddies” dont “mandate the abuse of women”-its the men in power who do that and hide their actions [...]

  • Alita commented on the blog post On the Sikh temple massacre and domestic terrorism   2 years, 2 months ago · View

Thats even if it gets called domestic “terrorism.” if you are a white American and you commit an act of terrorism the media will bend over backwards to AVOID calling your actions “terrorism” ie a few years ago when that American flew a plane into the IRS building. the golden rule-if you aint Muslim and [...]

  • Alita commented on the blog post Jay-Z has President Obama’s back and supports marriage equality   2 years, 5 months ago · View

Congrats, jay-z, for jumping on the bandwagon. seriously though this wont change anything no matter what people say. its a pity that the only time he speaks out against this is when the prex has done so first. he will never speak out against mysogyny even though he has a daughter, unless the prez does [...]

  • Alita commented on the blog post A New Day in Politics: Complicated conversations about Muslim women’s rights   2 years, 6 months ago · View

oh dear God Andrea you are the sort of person i was commenting about in my first point. i will say it again THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CULTURE AND RELIGION. JUST BECAUSE SOMTHING IS PRACTISED IN A “MUSLIM” COUNTRY DOES NOT MAKE IT ISLAMIC. IF THAT WERE THE CASE AS A MUSLIM WOMAN I [...]

  • Alita commented on the blog post A New Day in Politics: Complicated conversations about Muslim women’s rights   2 years, 6 months ago · View

“but conditions for women are still terrible and the deep-rooted misogyny embedded in Islam must be addressed.” are these her words or yours-because its crap like this which makes me headdesk so hard and this sort of crap that has people mansplaining and whitesplaining to me about my own religion. there is a difference between [...]

  • Alita commented on the blog post Is Porn A Prisoner’s Right?   3 years, 3 months ago · View

I agree with you Tyra. plus i find it surprising on a supposed feminist site that people are like “yeah prisoners should have porn” like all porn is the same-porn is a tricky issue especially with the fact it is becoming more and more violent-and you want prisoners to have this?
