I am part of this group in Facebook called ERA NOW. They are an organization dedicated to the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Some people may think we don’t need the ERA, because societal progress has eradicated the need for it. Not true. From women still making 77 cents to every dollar a man [...]

  • Jessica wrote a new blog post: Current Feminism: Is it leaving out spiritual and religious women?   1 year, 6 months ago · View

This is something I have thought about lately. It is pretty obvious that differing voices are sometimes looked over in the feminist movement. Maybe it is time we need to start welcoming those who have different cultural backgrounds, religious opinions, among other traits. We are currently in the “fourth wave,” and the fourth wave, unlike [...]

  • Monica, the pro-choice label has been associated with “loving to kill unborn babies,” or in other words, pro-abortion. It is true. There are a few NOW members who counter-protest the March for Life, and some members say “I am PROUD of my abortion!” No offense, that makes those who identify as pro-choice look bad. Abortion [...]

  • I agree with this action. If I were to “label” myself, I would identify as pro-life. The reason for that is because I am generally against abortion in most circumstances. But, at the same, I am against criminalization of abortion. Already certain states that have enacted anti-choice laws are arresting women and putting them in [...]

Ok, this is creepy. Seriously, teenagers are not going to keep their genitalia to themselves, like it or not. They need REAL sex education, in which they are given access to information about condoms, contraceptives, and STD prevention. These religious nutjobs have no sense of reality whatsoever on this issue.

Since today is the 39th anniversary of a woman having a right to privacy and to her own body, I am not going to make this a long post. Today is the day to celebrate our reproductive rights, but it is also the day to continue to fight for what we got 39 years ago. [...]

  • Jessica wrote a new blog post: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   2 years, 6 months ago · View

Today is a day we celebrate the great civil rights leader. He spoke against the discrimination of the African-American community. He spoke on behalf of workers’ rights, and he was against the capitalistic system we are currently in.  We can learn from Dr. Marin Luther King when it comes to our work with women’s rights. [...]

  • But about your comment on Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats are the ones standing up for our right to choose, it’s the Republicans waging this all-out War on Women. We need to vote the progressive Democrats in to change this crap. But these stories of clinic violence and terror are nothing new. It happens quite [...]

  • These idiots need to quit being babies (literally), and stop messing with our right to choose. They call the abortion of an in-viable, unformed fetus murder (which it isn’t), but then they go and actually murder people. Hypocrisy at its finest.

  • Jessica wrote a new blog post: Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade   2 years, 7 months ago · View

January 22nd will mark the 39th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the ruling that secured a woman’s right to a safe, legal abortion. Before Roe v Wade, abortions performed were back alley, illegal, and many women died from botched abortions. To me, that is a terrible reality to even ponder. I was born after this [...]

As we all know, within the last few weeks, the Bishops have been harping on President Obama to make a broad exception to the HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) mandate to have insurance companies cover birth control 100%, without co-pay. The Bishops are on their misogynistic rage, and they have been for decades. [...]

  • Jessica commented on the blog post Only the good (role models) die young.   2 years, 8 months ago · View

I agree. All movies and TV shows aimed at women and girls all are misogynistic in some sort of way. The boy, or man, is the hero, while the girl or woman is this weak, dependent person who depends on the man to protect her. It is really bad. And of course we have a [...]

  • Jessica wrote a new blog post: United 4 Equality   2 years, 8 months ago · View

United 4 Equality is an organization whose goal is to get the Equal Rights Amendment into the constitution by 2015. This past June, some of us may know about the Wal-Mart sex discrimination suit and how well that turned out. But Justice Scalia, however much I don’t like him, became a savior for the ERA. He [...]

  • Jessica commented on the blog post Paterno fired from Penn State   2 years, 8 months ago · View

I’m sorry, I’m just learning. I’m pretty young still. But Joe Paterno still takes responsibility for covering up the crime. Covering up the crime is like taking part in it, in a sense. And yes I am disgusted about how the students are sticking up for Paterno. I am a college student myself, and this [...]

  • Jessica wrote a new blog post: Paterno fired from Penn State   2 years, 8 months ago · View

This past week, Joe Paterno received a good bye letter in the mail. As a college student myself, I am very proud of Penn State’s decision, but many other students weren’t. There were riots that seemed to have gone on forever hailing their ‘hero.’ Why? Because he’s the all-time winningest coach? This is beyond appalling. [...]
