Former Bush Attorney Charged With Trying To Kill His Wife

I think I’m now committed to the destruction of “traditional marriage.”

I know this is nearly a week late, but thought it was still worth posting. The AP reports that

John Michael Farren, who served as deputy counsel to President George W. Bush, has been charged with strangulation and attempted murder after allegedly choking his wife and beating her with a flashlight.

Anyone find it problematic that a wife-beater has “counseled” one of the most powerful men on the planet?

Police said Farren attacked his wife at their New Canaan home Wednesday night. According to police, she passed out during the attack but regained consciousness and fled with their children to the house of a neighbor, who called 911. There, police found her bleeding from her head, face and body.

My sexist unconscious is struggeling with the desire to victim-blame a woman who married a man who tried to kill Iraq and several other countries, who similarly, yet metaphorically, “passed out during the attack but regained consciousness and fled with their children to the house of a neighbor, who called [the UN].” Unfortunately, in the case of Iraq, no one picked up.
