Might have something to do with all the right-wing anger against Planned Parenthood.

“We are a safe place where people can go and ask difficult questions about sex,” Richards said. “We do this for teens and adults, gays and straights, and that really irritates some people who believe sex is only for procreation.”

How to Help!

The right-wing fringe of the republican party both elected and otherwise, have made denying women access to reproductive health care their #1 priority. But we don’t have to take this sitting down. Let’s act now. Here are three things you can do:

Send a letter to Congress, asking them to protect Planned Parenthood and the women, men, and teens who rely on us by contacting your representative and telling him or her to vote “NO” on any attempt to cut off family planning funding. Hey Queens, let’s not re-elect the State Senator who was expelled for domestic violence.

PSA to all of our NYC/Queens folks:

You may or may not know, but next Tuesday on March 16 there will be a special election to replace State Senator Hiram Monserrate . You may remember Monserrate, the State Senator who was expelled from the State Senate after being convicted of domestic abuse? Well he’s running for his seat again. And has a very real chance of winning.

That’s why we need you. If you’re a locel and live in State Senate district 13 (that’s Corona, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Lefrak City and Woodside folks), it’s essential that you make your voice heard, and vote on March 16.

How to help out in Haiti: thinking about women’s and reproductive health.

Read more on the PPNYC Blog Like all of you I’m sure, I’ve been following the news of the major 7.0 earthquake in Haiti yesterday, devastating the country and leaving potentially thousands dead. Because the country is so poor and so much of the infrastructure has been devastated by the earthquake, relief to the area is struggling. Hospitals have been destroyed and makeshift clinics are running out of medical supplies. The affects of a disaster such as this go far beyond the immediate loss of life and structural damage. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably made a bunch of resolutions that err slightly on the side of unrealistic (if you weren’t going to the gym four times a week before Jan 1 you probably won’t start now).
