Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin wants to return to Congress!

A St. Louis TV station reports:

Could Todd Akin be the new comeback kid?

The 65-year-old former congressman says don’t rule him out. Nearly six months after losing the Senate race he continues to be attacked from all sides of the political spectrum. But the greatest barbs are thrown by fellow Republicans.

In an exclusive interview with KSDK-TV, the former Missouri congressman said, “I’m not going to try to get even with anybody. If you start to blame everyone else for something that happened you didn’t like, it will destroy you. It will eat you alive.”

When the reporter quizzed Akin about whether he still holds on to his ignorant comment about rape and pregnancy “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Akin offered this half-baked evasiveness:

In the past, Akin said he regrets those remarks but does he believe they are true? Does he believe in his heart that the female body can stop a pregnancy in the case of a rape?

Akin said, “No, no and I apologized for that. All of us are fallible, we make mistakes, and we say things the wrong way. I really lived that moment many, many times.”

“Say things the wrong way”? That’s all he’s got? Really? Reminds me of Dr. Ben Carson’s “sorry for choosing the wrong words” non-pology for his “no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA” may “redefine marriage” whatever that means. Akin doesn’t ...

A long way to go: YouTube top comments smear feminism

Trigger warning: rape apologetics & endless logical fallacies, stupidity, and failure to understand basic morality ahead.

I watch the online news/commentary show The Young Turks on YouTube. I enjoy Cenk Uygur’s fiery political commentary and some of the more offbeat stories the show does. Sometimes I even post comments. However, whenever the show covers anything about women I see the most disturbing anti-feminist commentary. Take this top comment I saw on the video “Seth MacFarlane accused of sexism at Oscars“, and my responses:

You saw it right there. Make a misrepresenting smear of the word feminism, get cheers & hoots by the ignorant teenagers and unthinking “men” (yes I use that word loosely) who frequent the YouTube comments section. Please ...

On day of Ohio school shooting, radio host promotes bullying to make kids tougher

I’d like to introduce myself as someone who discovered this website after reading Jessica Valenti’s mind-opening “Purity Myth” book.

That said, my point of this post is to raise awareness of a disturbing segment I heard on the radio on Monday afternoon. It was from “The Savage Nation” with Michael Savage (trigger warning as the host has a soft spot for bullying):

Basically the caller complained about his child being bullied at school and the child getting in trouble for fighting back rather than reporting to teacher. The caller also blamed youth violence on brainwashing by teachers and Hollywood. Savage responded: “I was bullied my entire life. So what? It made me the man I am…All it did was make me decide ...
