Personally, I vote with my vagina. And let me tell you, pulling that lever is not fucking easy.

Yeah, my poor little vag never thinks anything through, either, as much as I try to get it to vote Republican. Luckily, though, I've been doing my kegel excersizes to get ready for the big pull in November.
So Republican women are heartless?
Maybe Heidi was emotional on that day and was talking with her heart and not her mind?
I always love when women make generalizations about other women as if they are not part of the same group. As if the same comments don't come around and apply to them by some other sexist jerk.
We can see that she is in fact not thinking with her heart nor with her mind but actually with her ass.
Oh Jessica, you made me laugh my ass off at that! Then of course, a cube neighbor had to ask what I was laughing at. Thankfully my officemates are totally cool with the vagina commentary :)
About abortion: "And the women who are complaining about it the most are too darn old to get pregnant. So I don't think it's a big issue for young ones."
You're right, as a "young one" I'm totally not concerned about my right to choose. Especially since I'm of age to get pregnant, considering I'm not "too darn old".
Is it me or are women often depicted as complaining about rights and men as fighting the good fight?
So can we generalize the ways men vote too?
Let's see, they vote with their dicks, so they must have had a major hard on for Bush...
Umm, maybe they vote with their stomachs, and that's why we have politicians that don't want to address wage disparities, because fixing wage gaps could result in lost profits, which could result in higher prices for goods, like cheeseburgers!
Maybe men vote with their eyes, but then I'd think more women, especially younger, sexier looking women, would be elected, and there'd be practically no old dudes allowed.
Pffft on those media people that think women are so easily defined. Idiots.
You think it's hard to pull a lever with your vagina? We vote on those scantron sheet thingies. Oy! I have to do daily keggels for weeks before election day!
Stereotypes rock. Next time I have to admit that I don't know the answer to something, I'm not going to just leave it there. No way; I think I'll follow Harris's lead and just pull some classic stereotypes out of my ass. Stereotypes can totally stand in for any real answer!
Oh, and by the by, my heart and mind are aligned on political issues. Since we all found feminism, they don't fight much anymore. Thanks, feminism!
Oh my God, you made me spit my coffee onto my desk. And they say we don't have a sense of humor!
But actually recently I looked up the definition of anti-feminist and Ann Coulter came up...surprise. One of her quotes was that women shouldn't be given the right to vote, because if women were not allowed to vote all the presidents would have been republican in the past. What amuses me about is that these "republican women" think that they would have any say in society or even jobs had not previous women "protested with their hearts" and organized "with their hearts" and so forth. It is such hypocrisy. It spits on the very work these progressive women and men have done. Kind of sad. Plus Ann Coulter is the devil and she isn’t even married and she has no kids, like “republicans” emphasize.

I heard this interview last night and was surprised that Chris Matthews did not challenge her on these statements.
Odd segment all round.
let's hope this lady doesn't vote.
What are the qualifications to be the token female on Chris' show?
Hell yeah I vote with my heart! (I vote with my mind too, but apparently we have to choose between the two.) I've had enough of heartless policies that have a seriously negative effect on women, people of color, the mentally ill, homeless people, disabled people, the poor and working classes, etc. Why is that a bad thing?
AFter watching this, I literally said out loud to my computer screen, "Oh that hurts so much." As a 22 year old I most certainly do care about the state of abortion rights in this country. We just had a Supreme Court ruling that chipped away at a woman's right to choose, not to mention the countless state measures. I, and my female friends my age, certainly do care that the Supreme Court doesn't get any farther right. What an ignorant talking head. I can't take anymore of this ridiculous Republican sexist bullshit coming from WOMEN. Just because you don't care about abortion rights doesn't mean no one else does.
let's hope this lady doesn't vote.
What are the qualifications to be the token female on Chris' show?
Right on, waxghost! I was going to say that I definitely vote with my heart... because it breaks my heart to see my country falling apart because of the awful people in power. And with the current state the US is in, you guys really need to start voting with your hearts because it makes you sad when bridges collapse in Minneapolis.
Remember, guys, vote Democrat not just because of the rights of the disenfranchised, but also because of corruption, fiscal mismanagement, and crumbling infrastructure. (I know you all know that, I was just saying.)
So why do men vote Dem?
So does this make the GOP the party of the thinkers?
And no one cares about abortion? Is she for real?
And what if women did vote based on emotion, compassion and kindness towards other human beings? I'm not sure being told that I vote based on the basic values of what make me a human being concerned with the inalieable rights of all individuals is a bad thing!? I do vote democrat because I do feel for people who are different than me, or who are in life situations different than mine - oh wait, that type of thinking has a name, yes yes, COMPASSION. And I do have the compassion even as a 30 year old to understand the implications of Roe vs. Wade although it happened a few years ago. Again, I have the emotional intellegience to comprehend others struggles that lead to my rights. Gosh darn, all these silly "emotions" I have are just a bain on my existence. I should have some surgery to remove my compassionate awareness gene that is so prevalent in democrat women according to the commentator in the video.
Ironically enough my daily thought quote reads:
"It's painful to face how we harm others, and it a takes a while. It's a journey that happens because of our commitment to gentleness and honesty, our commitment to staying awake, to being mindful" -Pema Chodron
that was hilarious!! Vote with my vagina! Good morning chuckle :)
I think the argument could be made that anybody, male or female, who votes Democratic is "thinking with their hearts and not their minds." To narrow it down to women is simply ludicrous. Reading this blog can sometimes really get me down on the human race, or at least television news.
I heard this interview last night and was surprised that Chris Matthews did not challenge her on these statements.
Seriously? You were surprised?
(Jessica and Rachel Setzer, I envy your lever and Scantron voting. And it must take even finer motor control -- and acrobatic maneuvering -- to press blue squares on a computer screen with yr vag, especially if it's bleeding. It's bad enough that the things -- the machines, not the vaginas -- are hackable, malfunction constantly and lack a paper trail. Thank God for absentee ballots!)
To SarahMC: Obviously because they're girly!! And by girly that means emotional and dumb.
Seriously, I guess reading the newspaper, watching debates and speeches have all been in vain for me, because I'll just vote with my girly emotions! OMG Obama's so cuuuute I'll vote for him!! Ewww McCain is old and icky, I don't want to vote for him! Teehee!
So why do men vote Dem?
Remember SarahMC, we are in the midst of a boy crisis! And a man crisis! Men are less manly today. Real men vote Republican, but since the feminists are making men teh gay, they're voting Dem now! ::snort::
When I vote with my vag, I always wish that there was a little more than just that tiny curtain behind me. it always gaps, and it leaves me a bit insecure.
Oh, and I envy those of you who can use your vagina to vote. I don't even get a private booth when I vote, and the stand is really tall (up to my armpits), so I HAVE to vote with my heart; it's one of the few body parts that actually reaches.
*eyeroll* Yes, go right ahead and dismiss women as too emotional to have a political say. That's the next step, right?
Did this woman just come out of the 1890s? I'm sorry, I can't vote today, with my vagina or otherwise. I'm having a fit of the vapours because of my delicate emotional state.
FUCK. OFF.
I never could see how emotion and logic are mutually exclusive. You can't have one without the other in a human being, male or female.
On top of that, when a republican is getting up in arms about how they think abortion is murder due to their religion's influence on them, is that not an emotional response? How about those people who yell "unAmerican" whenever someone disagrees on political issues? Is that logical?
thanks for taking a commenter's suggestion earlier and providing a caption of the video!
wow she is so completely out of touch with all women. to say young women don't care about abortion is ridiculous. any girl you talk to has an opinion about it.
i love the "women are emotional" speak. how very original.
uhh... just because something doesn't currently exist doesn't mean I can't CONCEIVE of it
please
The great thing about women is they're employing their emotional quotients as well as their intelligence quotients. But ya know what? MEN. DO. THAT. TOO. Jesus Christ.
I am sure some people (yes, men and women) *do* vote with their hearts.
What I fail to understand is why this is automatically a bad thing. Should the heart never come into decisions about politics? Should we purely think in logical terms with no emotion swaying us one way or another? Hmmm...doesn't seem like it would produce a good end result to me.
Also, those who are anti-choice, conservative, believe in abstinence-only education and "family values" etc. etc. - are their politics not emotional?
Seems to me that everyone votes with both their hearts and minds, most of the time...
Since no thinking mind could possibly have ever voted for George Bush the *second* time, this leads to the inevitable conclusion that men don't vote with their minds either. And if they don't vote with their hearts, that leaves their dicks.
So women vote out of compassion and empathy. Men vote out of the desire to screw someone. Tell me why anyone who believes this thinks *men* should have the vote?
(I only heard the second half of this conversation at the time it played, and I thought she had a point -- women who have never been denied the right to choose may not think through what a big deal it is. For that matter I suspect there are a lot of pro-life women who, when faced with the reality of an unwanted pregnancy living in *their* bodies, suddenly are happy they have the right to get rid of it. But if I'd heard the part of her statement about the hearts and minds, I would have known the woman was a goddamn idiot. How did that even make sense with the rest of what she was saying?)
I enjoy being criticized for not using my brain by the party that doesn't believe in science.

So Chris Matthews being an idiot is an excuse for you to sink to his level and act like a troll?
Qwerty, AlaraJRogers was pointing out how conservatives' "logic" is just as insulting to men as it is to women.
AJR's been on Feministing a long time, and generally makes very intelligent and fair-minded comments. You are a relative newbie. Your focus should be on learning.
Read more carefully and don't be so quick to make accusations.
I'm not a fan of Chris Matthews but when I heard Amy Goodman would be on, I had to check it out.
That Heidi Harris woman is like Ann Coulter on speed.
Ugh.
Seriously. I couldn't believe the crazed conservative bull she kept crapping out of her mouth.
I suggest watching the whole interview... As always, Amy Goodman brought an intelligent and rational perspective. Much respect.
Also a big Friday fuck you to Chris Matthews, for calling women and major push-button issues like abortion "low-hanging fruit." Clearly, abortion rights are the only rights that matter to women. Forget repro rights in general, universal health care, the raising of minimum wage, better quality education, etc. So all anyone has to say is "I'm pro-choice."
But if that's the case, then McCain is really showing his inability to garner even the easiest of constituencies. And if he can't get the low-hanging fruit, he has no chance with the higher-up issues (and people). Which makes Matthews' point worthless anyways.
