Dr. Sue retires

Sad to say that 77 year old Dr. Sue Johansen will be ending her Oxygen network show this Sunday evening.

Best quote ever:

77-year-old Sue said, "It's been part of my life and I just love it. I'm going to miss writing scripts. I'm going to miss having to read books. I'm going to miss playing with sex toys."

Who wouldn't love having a grandmother who says things like that? We'll miss you Dr. Sue.

But I loved Dr. Sue. The first time I came across her show, I was shocked to see and hear someone who looked and sounded just like my grandmother, only she was talking about her favorite sex toys.

She seemed so approachable and knowledgeable that I watched her show any time I saw that it was on. I learned a great deal. ;)

But at 77, she deserves her retirement. But I'll miss her!

Oh, Dr. Sue!! I love her. I'll be sad to see her and my Sunday night sex knowledge go.

She is so great...I went to see her speak last year, and she does a great impression of how fallopian tubes look like a moose coming through the bushes! ;)

Sue's an RN, not a doctor! :)

I remember she used to correct callers about that all the time when The Sunday Night Sex Show show first aired on WTN in Canada. Anyway, she's fantastic and her show will definitely be missed.

Hahah. When I protest to my 90 year old grandma that she gives me too much "gas money," she replies "Well, I don't pay for booze, and I don't pay for smokes, and I don't pay for sex, so what the hell else am I going to use it for?"

god love these women.

*she is awesome*

Well, she's no Dr. Ruth, from whom I learned everything I know about sex (am I dating myself?), but she's pretty cool. I remember the first time I saw her- I thought it was a late-night prayer show and she was some church lady who was going to be railing against premarital sex and stuff.

We'll miss you Sue!

There's something to be said for anyone who can talk as openly and as frankly about sex on a cable TV network.

I learned so much from Sue! I'll miss her.

I love Dr. Sue. She is one awesome lady.

I love Dr. Sue - I remember when she used to have the "Sunday Night Sex Show" on radio back in the early 1990's and I, being the inquisitive but shy 12-year old really wanted to phone in, but was too scared. Never fear - Dr. Sue mentioned that listeners could also write into the radio station with questions. I did just that, and not two weeks later received extensive information on the 'abortion pill' which I had briefly heard about in my sex-ed class in school - and I was really curious - "They have things that can do that?!"

Moreover, I got a list of sex-information clinics and phone numbers in Toronto as well as a handwritten note from Sue herself! When I wrote to Santa Claus as a child, I never even got a handwritten note back!

Thanks Sue for being so cool by keeping discussions about sex open, honest and real. The 12-year old girl that I was, and now 27-year old woman that I am, will always remember you for it.

Dr. Sue is one of my heroes of life. She is Canadian, she's a woman, and she says what she wants and doesn't give a damn what other people think.

My first year of university, my friends and I would gather around every Sunday to watch her show. There was even a drinking game! My favourite was when she would get out the dolls and put them in different positions. My friends and I even wrote her a song.

I've been to see her speak twice and she was amazing. If only there were more people like Sue in the world, unafraid to tell the truth about sex. She rocks my socks.

I love her! She always seems so approachable and funny, and completely unflappable.

This is one incredible woman.
I can only hope that her shows will live on in reruns so that my future hypothetical kids can learn and laugh with her, as I did.
Another proud Canadian moment - honouring Sue and her sensational work in real, honest, true-to-life sex education that has empowered so many.
Here's to you Sue.

Whenever I went home from college and channel surfed and chanced on her show, I would be ecstatic. Her show was one of the best things on television - informative, and unabashadly so.

My friends and I in middle school LOVED "Talk Sex"! And now, as a Peer Sexuality Educator, I can definitely see how our work, as people who grew up tuning in at the wee hours as adolescents, is informed by her style! Oh, Sue! I'll miss you!

she will definitely be missed... i hope they sell the episodes...it'll make teaching my younger sister MUCH easier... & extremely fun!
