Anti-feminist mailbag (the missing 5% edition)

dunce.gifWe receive a lot of hate email here at Feministing, and this one was too good not to share.

Men are better than women look at the comparison in IQ men are scientifically proven to have a higher IQ by roughly 5 points, or 5% you cannot dispute science sorry and if you want a much better website than your shitty one you might want to go to [redacted]. I think you would gain a lot more knowledge from that website and you might learn about the truth that way you would not be so stupid and ignorant you stupid cunts.

Apparently that extra five percent doesn't help prevent run-on sentences. You would also think that those extra brain power percentage points would stop a dude from sending harassing emails from his school email address. Because then we wouldn't know that our charming admirer is the public relations officer (yes, public relations) of the Southern Illinois University College Republicans, Alex Kochno. I think I'll stick with my stupid cunt lady brain, thanks very much.

Alex Kochno: "Internetz anonymoity, I no has it animore. Kthxbai."

I guess the 5% rule doesn't apply to him, huh?

And shit, if it isn't bad spelling, then it's bad sentence structuring. Punctuation trolls, punctuation! We still use it!...!

Posted by: L-K [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:14 PM

Ok, this is probably way too obvious a snipe, but... IQ tests aren't done on a 100 point scale. Therefore, a difference of 5 IQ points is not equal to a 5% difference. And I'm supposed to believe that this guy can argue scientific theory with me?

Posted by: SociologicalMom [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:14 PM

Fuck my mouth, did you just get trolled by Ron Burgundy?

This is a feature I've been expecting for some time, and I applaud it. Two words, though, Valenti--Public. Domain.

When this sort of textured, nuanced correspondence arrives, anonymity goes buh-bye. Let us at 'em. I know, I know, dudes want to frame every conflict in the context of an ass-whooping and it's not especially productive?

But oh-so gratifying.

Posted by: Pengo [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:17 PM

Oh Alex, your charming grasp of the English language not only makes you a stunning advertisement for your organization--it makes me want to join! And become a Republican! And can I be your girlfriend too? I love you.

Posted by: cheekykitten [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:17 PM

I say those of us with facebook accounts "poke" the crap out of him. Does that count as non-violent resistance?

Posted by: requiemdem [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:19 PM

Wow. I'm a fucking idiot. Way to read the entire post, Pengo...with that said, have at 'em, heroes.

Posted by: Pengo [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:20 PM

Feministing-ers (is that right?) you should report this hate mail to the school. My guess is it violates all sorts of standards for student conduct. If so, he should face disciplinary proceedings. You may also want to send something to the school's newspaper, and to the faculty advisor for the College Republicans.

Hate speech => consequences

Posted by: jfaustus [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:21 PM

What a dumbass. He's probably going to have to change his name to get a decent job. No employer who does internet searches as part of its screening process is going to want this dweeb.

Posted by: SixtiesLiberal [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:21 PM

Pengo beat me to the Ron Burgundy reference, but I'll put it in full:

Ron Burgundy: I'm a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It's science!

Posted by: Caro [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:22 PM

Ahh, one of Illinois' finest! Makes this cunt proud to call it home.

Anyone else notice that there wasn't a single female listed among the officers of SIU's College Repukeagains? Hmm.

Posted by: moon_grrl [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:27 PM

I sent an email to the President of their College Republicans, hutch61525@yahoo.com, but since it's not a school address I don't know how much it will do. I sent it from my university address so he'll know it's serious.

Posted by: pinkpicnic [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:30 PM

I've poked him on facebook. I will keep poking until I grow bored of him :)

Posted by: Georgiana [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:31 PM

Oh, this couldn't get any better: a google search on his name picks this blog article up first. Oy vey.

Posted by: pinkpicnic [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:31 PM

This just made my entire day.

Today marks the first time I ever use the "poke" function on Facebook. And FYI: his profile on MySpace is "private," but you can still send messages! Here's mine:

Subject: Way to go, brainiac!

Body: Sorry about your penis! I may have a small lady brain, but I'm smart enough to know you're not getting laid.

Posted by: TheSoyMilkConspiracy [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:31 PM

Hilarious. Additionally:

you cannot dispute science

is stupid in a multitude of ways:

*If science couldn't be disputed, we'd never have gotten past Galileo.

*The science so strong that it can't be disputed? No source, natch, so neither can it be verified.

*Aren't Republicans supposed to be hot to discredit the majority of reputable scientists that disagree with them on, well, everything? Not so much stupid as off-message.

Did anyone notice that it looks as if he might be in a white supremacist band in that MySpace photo?

I'm forwarding this post to a friend who used to teach at SIU. It should remind of the good times she had there.

BTW-Great response, Feministing! Bravo!

Posted by: comoprozac [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:40 PM

Clearly Southern Illinois has no essay entrance requirement because they'd take one look at your absurd grasp of grammar and laugh your ass back to high school.

Posted by: adminassistant [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:41 PM

Oh so hilarious. This brightened my morning.

Posted by: religiarchy [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:42 PM

Bwahahahahah! Oh, that was a great laugh, thanks! I also agree that since he sent it from his school address, you should forward that email to whoever he reports to. I'm sure there are terms of use with the school email addresses that this violates.

Posted by: GottaBeMe [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:43 PM

I sent a message too:

Guiness Book of World Records lists: Marilyn vos Savant (a woman) as having the highest IQ on record

Posted by: Steph [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:43 PM

This is hilarious. This just proves that men ARE funnier than women.

Posted by: Carrie [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:46 PM

Every time the feminist group I founded on my college campus got hate mail, it always looked like this. And they were from males. Go figure.

Posted by: Michele [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:47 PM

Did you verify that he actually sent it? I'm sure that you know way more about how to track email than I do, but I would hesitate to call out a guy publicly without knowing whether or not his email account had been appropriated. I constantly have email bounce back to me that I know I didn't send, but were sent from my school email address. We had a problem with this at my university recently -- someone was sending out emails that looked like they were from an associate dean, but they were not.

Posted by: Flower [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:48 PM

It could have been 10% without your score dragging us down, Alex. Thanks a lot, flatliner!

Posted by: norbizness [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:49 PM

You guys rule, I'm laughing so hard that I could cry :)

I love that this post is first on google for his name. If anyone wants to know more about this guy, you just know what they'll find.

On a related note, I've been at the receiving end of some internet assholes before, but I haven't faced anything near what you guys have to deal with in terms of hate-mail and such. You truly are real bad-asses, and an inspiration to women and men everywhere. Keep up the awesome work!

Posted by: Oskar [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:50 PM

I contacted the particular college deans' office for SIU that he belongs to at this address: http://www.cba.siu.edu/contactUs.html...

Posted by: Meredith [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:52 PM

I. LOVE. IT. I love the haters, bring em on. They just give me that feeling Whitney Houston used to sing about, man, like I can freaking fly.

I hope this douche gets expelled for hate speech and abuse of his school email. I hope every girl passes this around so they all know what a bigoted misogynist prick he is. No love for you, Kockno! Good thing you're so cool with your guitar.

Posted by: lizadilly [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 12:56 PM

A lot of this hype about men having higher I.Q. scores because they score better on math tests is just that-a bunch of hype. I posted a link to this article in the post on testerone, and I think it explains a lot.

ah crap. I went to this school. What a slap in the face to read this douche's email and then discover this hateful idiot is attending my alma mater.

Count me in for facebook/myspace/siu.edu follow up.

Posted by: veej [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:02 PM

Holy Shit! I have friends in common with this Kid! And he grew up in my neighborhood. EWWWWW

Posted by: EverythingisImage [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:04 PM

I can't say anything funny or brilliant that hasn't already been said - but ladies, you have ALL made my day. I will e-mail his dean, poke him on Facebook, and send him a lovely little message on MySpace about the correct usage of cunt. I doubt he'd know what to do if one sat on his face - although I'm hoping "stop breathing" is always an option.

To the kick-ass, intelligent, and wonderful bloggers of Feministing - I am truly sorry you have hate mail at all. It's inevitable, and I'm sure you deal with it with as much grace and aplomb as you can. But THANK YOU for letting us have your back on this one. We'll do you proud!

Posted by: TexasMomma [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:05 PM

Kudos, Jessica, on calling this person out. More people need to know that they can't get away with doing things like this.

Posted by: anomrabbit [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:06 PM

And punctuation is your friend.

I give him an F for that assignment. He shuda jus typed it like he wuz sendin a txt. I hope he getz in trble 4 that. I want to send him a douche card.

Posted by: kacey [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:09 PM

Ha ha ha. Even if men were smarter, how does that = all around better?
Not only are most of us smarter than this guy, we are likely to live longer,
work harder, and GIVE BIRTH! I would say it could be argued that last fact alone makes women "better". (Not that I am saying that women are inherently better than men, I am just saying the argument could be made.)

I am not so sure that this idiot would mind being poked continually on facebook. He might like that sort of attention.

Posted by: heller [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:15 PM

Damn it, not my alma mater!! (For the record, I didn't graduate there, I transferred out after a year for personal reasons). Anywho, FYI, not all Salukis are this stupid. SIUC is a really vibrant campus with great doctoral programs and a strong feminist presence (at least for Southern Illinois, which is very red). The Women's Center there does fabulous work, as well. I am ashamed that this guy went to the same school as Dennis Franz, Joan E. Higginbotham (astronaut), and I. Screw you, Koncho, for giving the Dawgs a bad name!

Posted by: Jacqueline [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:17 PM

well, i just sent an email to the dean's office of the college of business for this douchebag...hey mr. if you're reading these comments just think about what you're school and potential employers might think about you now you stupid ass!

Posted by: RoseColoredGlasses [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:30 PM

I live for the anti-feminist mailbag. Thanks Jessica, you're my hero!

Posted by: Lisa @ Corporate Babysitter [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:30 PM

It has been said before, it will be said again. Someone (read Alex Kochno) needs to read Stephen J. Gould's 'The Mismeasure of Man.'

Also, wanted to chime in that my father is a Saluki, and that it is indeed a great institution.

I just called SIU Student Development office. The faculty advisor for the SIU College Republicans is:

Jonathan Bean (History)
tel: 618-453-7872
email: jonbean@siu.edu

Let's make sure that the official faculty advisor knows how we feel about the hate-speech coming from the PR rep of their club!

Carbondale, Illinois is my hometown.

It sickens me to think that somebody like that is in a position of power at SIUC.

I take comfort in the fact that with language skills like that, his resume will undoubtedly list his time as a "pubic relations consultant" someday.

ok so i also sent an email to Jon Bean -his faculty advisor notifying him of what this ass said...hopefully he and the dean gets enough emails to do something about him-this just makes me so mad...sorry about the frequent posts, this is very touching to me and i want this kid to pay.

Posted by: elizabear [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 01:49 PM

Hahaha, Southern Illinois, represent!

This was the region I grew up in, where boys used to tell me I looked like an "ugly man" in 7th grade b/c I had short hair, small breasts and didn't shave my legs. Then when I wore tight pants or a dress they followed me around calling me a slut and groping me.

A bunch of people from my hs went to this university, but I chose to get the hella out of the region.

Posted by: Ninapendamaishi [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 02:00 PM

As a Ph.D. candidate at SIUC, I have forwarded this post onto a prominent figure of the College Democractic Party at SIU. Though I doubt much can be done in the way of official repercussions, they may find interesting ways to bring this issue i nto the public forum. As a side note: Why are some people so utterly devoid of all intelligence?

Posted by: mtangel81 [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 02:01 PM

I love Feministing but I find it kind of repulsive that you actually posted the guy's full name and occupation.

yes, hatemail is stupid and vile, but anonymity should be respected regardless

Posted by: emmag [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 02:03 PM

Emmag, I think his right to anonymity went out the window when he send a very non-anonymous email from his school address. If he doesn't want people to know that he's a misogynist that calls women "stupid cunts" then he could have taken two minutes to create a hotmail account. Sorry, I just don't feel bad about it.

Posted by: Jessica [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 02:08 PM

'I love Feministing but I find it kind of repulsive that you actually posted the guy's full name and occupation.

This is a person in a public relations position. No expectation of anonymity exists.

I, for example, am a professor. I don't expect that if I send emails from my academic address that I am doing so anonymously, quite the contrary.

People in positions of (even limited) power or authority have a responsibility to show judgment and restraint.

I sent him an email. I've never been more ashamed to call Illinois home. What a dolt.

Ditto Jessica, Sean, and EG.

I have been emailing Jon Bean and the Director of Student Dev. about this issue and they have responded to me, I advised them to email Jessica for a copy of the orginal email. So hopefully they will be in touch!

Methinks Mr. Kochno is going to seriously regret this...and even learn a thing or two hopefully...

My facebook message:

Hi Alex,

Thanks for calling me and over half of the world "stupid cunts," as well as making me (and everyone else at Feministing.com) laugh our asses off at you. Just so you know, misogyny is kinda unattractive, especially when you've got hundreds of pissed off "cunts" emailing you, your professors, your dean, your friends, your campuses clubs, and your potential employers. Congratulations on ensuring that this follows you forever, you asshole.

Love,
___name___ (raging feminazi cunt and fucking proud of it)

From Jon Bean:

"I'm being bombarded with email and have asked all sides for more information."

Keep it up, fellow-feminists! Let's keep the messages flowing...!!

I just sent an email to Jon Bean and another to the Dean of the School of Business. And I'm at a university in the UK - I hope they notice this has now gone international.

Way to go, ladies. Take Back The Net!

The quote on his MySpace page is priceless:

"You can only be as crazy as your mind allows you to be"

Indeed.

"You can only be as crazy as your mind allows you to be"

And your mind, sweetheart, gives you boundless licence.

Wow, he uggs.

Hmmm, from reading the posts from other SIU students, I'm forced to conclude that the English department does teach punctuation. Maybe he's too manly to go to class.

@AnnaTwitch: my mass com. TA wrote that in a PowerPoint once and I told her she should take 15 points off for a spelling error. I lmao.

Ninapendamaishi (and all my other S. IL grrls), it makes me so proud to see strong feminists coming from my home area (I'm from a little town south of Marion). My high school experiences were a lot like Nina's, only I was a fat, openly feminist, Literature nerd that everyone alternately made fun of or ignored. It makes me proud to see native SIL voices speaking up to combat the misogyny Koncho and others represent. And for all of you NOT from SIL, thanks for showing grrls from the area that women united can't be divided! :-) Keep up the good fight!

Jessica, I thought exactly the same thing about his punctuation. Why is it that misogynists tend to have such bad grammar/punctuation a lot of the time?

Mostly unrelated: while poking around the SIU Republicans' myspace friends, I found this sad little profile: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=111090779
Just look at that profile picture. :(

soo yeah.... there are a million reasons why this guy was completely wrong in what he said. i sent an email to mr. bean...

Mr. Bean,

I know you have already received multiple emails...so I will not go too in-depth on why Mr. Kochno's email was hateful, offensive, and just plain wrong. I will not discuss with you why it made no sense.. what with the whole thing being one entire sentence, and the reference to non-existant scientific research. I do not wish to argue about why it is wrong, because it just is. If you and your group, the College Republicans, couldn't care less about women's rights... I think it's a shame, but I won't sit here and try to convince you to be. My question is this: do you really want someone like Mr. Kochno, who demonstrated vile and disgusting hatred towards women, the inability to correctly structure a simple sentence, and the inability to use valid research to support an opinion, as your Public Relations Officer? I'm sure in a university such as yours, you could find a more intelligent human being to fill the position. I don't know, maybe one of the "stupid cunts" Mr. Kochno referred to in his email. There are no 2 sides of this... we received a hateful email from a blatant moron, and it is doing your university and your group a great disservice to allow him to represent you. Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Leslie Warren

(feminist and "stupid cunt")

---------------

i didnt want to disregard why it was wrong to be hateful and disrespectful towards women in general... but i thought i'd appeal to him by pointing out that this moron is representing him and the school. i dunno. whatevs.

Alex Kochno:

"wat is punkutashin can i has it"

As for seeking support from the university itself: didn't someone mention earlier that SIU has a fairly dedicated feminist group? Maybe it would be helpful to contact them and let them know!?

Jaime, I saw that one too!

But I laughed hysterically at it.

Posted by: MirandaJay [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 04:08 PM

The first line says it all as far as Republican thinking is concerned: "Men are better than women." Also, the last line is quite telling: women = "stupid cunts."

Alex Kochno: OPEN MOUTH, INSERT HEAD.

Facebook users should also "post" this article on facebook- that way everyone on your newsfeed will see it! What a child. I am SO glad this article comes up on google searches :)

Re: punctuation...clearly, ladies, he is far to manly for a period of any kind. This amazing sentence proves it, he is 100% (the equivalent of 100 points) man.

I checked out some of the SIU blogs yesterday, interesting exchanges between the feminists and the CR there. I don't remember anyone hurling "stupid cunt" though, I think they were trying to maintain their dignity and the $20 or so dollars their bake sale brought in (minus, of course, the cost involved in purchasing ingredients).

I almost wish I had a facebook account or whatever to join in on the poking. Whatever poking is.

Alex, in the meantime, rest assured that you are still 100% man, and anytime you ever go on an interview, and there is a woman on the interview team, she may know exactly what you think of her. You better hope your mom won't google your name, or maybe you think she's too stupid to do so. Does she know what you think of her?

lolz

MirandaJay: You can contact the head of the Women's Studies department at joanmcd@siu.edu. I haven't been in Southern IL for a while, but when I was there, the majority of the feminsit activism I was involved with was through the Women's Center. You can contact the Executive Director at wced@thewomensctr.org. Does anybody else know of any groups that might be interested?

also: alex kochno alex kochno alex kochno alex kochno alex kochno alex kochno alex kochno. He hates women and grammar, and LOVES SCIENCE. And the IQ test, which apparently is on a 100-point scale... which is what he tells himself when he got his score of 64. That's a C, right? and IQ of C?

Posted by: eco [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 04:27 PM

BTW, there is also supposed to be a Feminist Majority Leadership Alliances on the SIUC campus, but I couldn't find any info on them.

Posted by: Jacqueline [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 04:27 PM

Jessica - sorry, I take back what I said. I think I reacted too quickly - for some reason the fact that he sent you a repulsive email from a very identifiable email address (given to him along with responsibility that he clearly doesn't have the brains to have) did not permeate my brain quite right. Kudos to you for being brave enough to confront hate-mail so boldly.

Posted by: emmag [TypeKey Profile Page] | April 17, 2008 04:28 PM

So, Jessica...am I correctly recalling that you would post a few goodies like this one once in a while to make our day? Am I pulling that out of my ass?

Can we have some more please, I really really needed that laugh but could sure use some more! :D

Also, excellent photo choice.
