Monday Morning Inspiration

I couldn't help myself, I needed one.

UPDATE: To those who asked... the "/" symbol is akin to "end" in coding. Hence, /patriarchy = end patriarchy!

The page wouldn't come up.

I assume you make these in sizes that extend beyond a junior's large? I would like to think that Feministing accommodates its plus-sized supporters.

I ask because I was recently disappointed to find that the Donnas' (who have a plus-sized bassist) girl tees only come in s, M, L. And my size XL "This is what a feminist looks like" shirt from FMF is ridiculously tiny, considering that's the size I need in most brands. The idea that an all-female band with a plus sized member AND a feminist organization didn't take varying body types into account.

I sincerely hope you did.

That should say "The idea that an all-female band with a plus sized member AND a feminist organization didn't take varying body types into account is incredibly disappointing" but I lost my train of thought somewhere in there, lol.

Hmm, checking on the page - it looks like Zazzle is having a web prob. Should be back up shortly. I believe they have all sorts of sizes, not just juniors. Unfortunately, this is the only shirt company we're working with at the moment. We previously did our shirts via Goodstorm, which was awesome, but they got purchased by Zazzle. If anyone knows of a good small company (pref one who gives more than 10 percent to us per item!) I'm all ears...

Snap!
Look!

oh shit! great minds, huh?

Liza: It looks like Zazzle offers 30 different styles for women, and only a few of them stop at L. The rest go up to at least XL, and 8 of them go up to XXL.

I just ordered one. I made it a gray/blue ringer tee, men's 2XL (since I'm a bigger gal). I love how you can customize the shirt - awesome. Thanks!

Cool, thanks. It seems really stupid for these companies to leave out a major chunk of their potential customers, but so many do it, and it's really annoying. Even on Cafepress, where they have everything from XS-3X, the seller chooses the sizes, so a lot don't include the bigger ones. Which I don't get.

And um...sorry if I sounded argumentative before. It's a hot button.

It's one of those little things that reminds me that our culture at large thinks less of you the larger you are. Plus, it's pretty goddamn frustrating to have to either buy a men's and have it fit weird (sleeves too long, shoulders too wide, etc) or NOT get a shirt I like at all because the ones cut for women are only cut for skinny women with no boobs.

Or like how the Filene's basement on Union Square just moved the plus sizes up to the highest floor, next to housewares. It was bad enough when it was in the back corner of the main floor. It's like "you fat ladies are gross looking, we don't want you near our sensitive skinny customers."

I'm ranting again. Sorry. Like I said, hot button.

As a woman who wears a 3x tshirt, looks like total ass in men's/unisex (why are these the same?!) shirts, and has been involved with getting shirts printed for a large feminist organization, it can be really difficult to find a combination of size, ethical production, and style. We had been with American Apparel for ages, but they have plenty of internal political troubles, and at the time, didn't make anything above an XL in women's tees. When we started looking at other supply companies, their t-shirts were either made in sweatshops, or only came in unisex styles, or were badly made/ugly, or didn't come in larger sizes. This was all several years ago.

Which is a long-winded way of saying, I'm sympathetic to it being hard to find awesome t-shirts for feminists, including larger women -- but would you please try? As a feminist web designer, I have *got* to get this shirt.

I'm thrilled they offer male options as well (hello, 2x!), but I can't decide if I'm touched or creeped out about the baby onesies.

i'm buying this shirt at the moment, and instead of waiting for it show back up on my campus i'm making my own "this is what a feminist looks like" shirt. and once our campus femalliance has more, i'll just have two of those.

Karen, AA makes a 2X women's now, but they run really small. If I go into Old Navy or Uniqlo or the Gap or somewhere like that, XL usually fits me. But when I ordered something printed an AA shirt, I ordered a 2X and it was still on the tight side. I love their ethical production codes, but I wish they made stuff run true to size.

And yeah, I don't get why "unisex" is just men's.

I finally did get to the site though. I appreciate that a lot of the women's styles go up to 2X. I haven't compared the size charts to my own measurements (it's the giant boobies that pose the largest problem), so I can't comment on how they appear to run. I wish the argyle one came in XL and 2X though, it's really cute.

I love it...but $35 for a shirt?
