Quick Hit: New Social Networking Site for Lady Activists
I just got an email about this new social networking site for global women activists: PulseWire. It's still in beta form, but they're looking for those working in the fields of human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, and water sustainability to join up and test it out.
What do people think about social networking sites anyway--overhyped or actually helpful? I can never decide.

I can see the good about humanitarian efforts and all, and social networking. I'm not sure why it has to be specifically for women though.
Shouldn't everyone be working together for the good of humanity? I'm quite sure more good can be done that way, rather than putting effort into separation.
Social networks are just platforms; whether they're useful or overhyped depends entirely on what the users do with them.

I work on the carpool app on facebook, and people always tell me that facebook apps are useless and annoying, but we see a lot of people making valuable use of them.
I agree that it depends on what you make of them. I think it's a great way to maintain contact with a high number of friends/acquaintances and turn somebody you meet into somebody you hang out with. I haven't seen them as a great way to organize activists, but I wouldn't rule it out.
